Hi Guys, im looking to build quite a few of these, and have been looking at reference material, the one im interested in is Porsche 956/962 A photographic history by Glen Smale, its not cheap and as there is no way of looking at the contents before buying, i was wondering if any one has the book or has viewed it, and if so is it worth buying. Or failing this can anyone recommend a good book. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have the sister volume on the 917. If this is anything to go by then what you get is what it says on the box.
Pretty good photo repro, some useful captions and a decent text.
If you can get the Reynald Hezard books on the 956 and 962 you'll get a better chassis by chassis reference although there is no english language editions of either yet.
If you can get the French language editions then at least there is some English captioning.
I have both and the sister 917 edition, all three together make a proper reference.
Be prepared to pay lots of money for them, although if you go to LeMans next year you may find them cheaper on the book stalls there. Richard Middleton and I were amazed to each pick up the 956 volume for 20 Euros this year! The look on our faces when the nice young lady told us the price was apparently priceless!

Hi Dave I do have said Smale book as well as John Allen's 956/962 and the Hezard 956 book referred to above. Smale is a superb photo reference.90%+ in colour and probably covers all liveries as well as series from prototype up to '93. Hezard mostly concentrates on side view drawings of ALL the liveries and variants at each rce of the 956 with occasional supporting photos. Listed in chassis number order with a summary table per chassis. Here's one example at random. Note they don't all include plan view: It sounds as though you're going in big time, in which case I'd say you'd find any of them invaluable... Rich
