Back in 1983 I found myself working in America for a couple of months and after seeing an F106 model in a special colour scheme and feeling the need to possess an airbrush I bought both and proceeded to discover (a) It is not easy to get a gloss finish (b) Airbrushing using a propellant can is not easy and a great way to spend a lot of money As a result I gave up and put it in the ‘pending’ box where it continued to look at me reproachfully for the next 24 years. Recently I decided that ‘something must be done’ and managed to finish it. It isn’t perfect by any means but at least it is done. Two questions arose 1. The kit had ‘blisters’ on the leading edge. I thought that only the early prototypes had these before they were replaced by notches. Any ideas? 2. The canopy was shown as having a central frame over the pilot’s head whereas the pictures I have seen show it as being frameless. When did the change occur and which version applies to mine?

Thank you. The reason I persisted with it was because of the colour scheme. I think the photo does flatter it.

Well yep I can beat 24 years - Although I'm not posting a picture! My Airfix Canberra was started when I was made redundant after 22 years, that was summer 1980 sitting on my patio 'enjoying' my 3 Months full pay pre-redundancy time (July/August/September). Then starting a new job I had to stop the modelling, too much to learn, and full work commitment to establish myself. When I did come back to it I'd lost the main wheels. Thus it stayed until my Middle son bought his own home in 2005 - towards the end of 2005 we took all his 350+ kits out of my loft to transfer to his. Some box's of odds were checked as we couldn't remember what was in them and hey there were the Canberra wheels all painted and ready. I took the Canberra still not quite finished and wheels on holiday in 2006 and finished in time for Scale Modelworld 2006 .......... 26 years ......... but I bet someone can beat that!

Can't beat it but am matching it at 24 years with a Frog Shackleton I bought when I was 18 from MHW models. It's still not finished though a week or two would see it done. To be honest though I am thinking of stripping it and starting again. Very nice F106 btw.
All the best.

I think I probably will beat it. Started my Airfix Vulcan 3 weeks after my son was born - late December 1984 (he was born on 6/12/84, the Vulcan was a Chrimbo pressie from the missus & I started it on Boxing day 1984 !). It's been rescribed, built & primed - & put in a box 'somewhere up the loft'. With all the junk up there, I'll never be able to find it until the loft is emptied - the earliest that'll ever happen will be when we move. Which isn't going to be in the forseeable next 5 years or so!!! Keef

Keefr22 you DO have to finish it to count! Work in progress over 24 years is showing promise, but you'll have to try harder as the school reports used to say.

Started an Airfix (I think it was) 17 pounder gun when I was 17 - I'm a returning modeller of 42 next month. In need of repair a bit now too but I was so proud of getting the 4-part barrel straight and seemless I'm going to try to complete it. So I think that's 25 years an counting
