Just got my Indianapolis kit and from what I`ve seen I`m highly impressed with it.From looking at the sprues ,it seems as though Academy are planning different versions of this kit ,possibly back-dating it to 1944 or earlier. You get two types of aircraft Seagulls ,and Seahawks ,the latter was carried when she was sunk in Aug 1945. This kit is a bargain !! Cheers Phil

This is my almost finished build of the Academy Indianapolis kit.On the whole it is a really good kit and an enjoyable build. However the small parts are very fragile and are easily broken, otherwise it can`t be faulted. Cheers Phil

That's coming along well Phil. Presume the kit is of the latest quality expected from the newest kits now. Is there an aftermarket/photo etch set out for the class now?
I was considering a US cruiser but planning the next class (Astoria class) using Trumpeter's USS San Frasansisco. I wonder how they compare?

Well have built the USS San F useing the Lion Roar PE. Have got it to the primer stage. Not sure how they compare. From the picture it looks like they were standard. But I could be wrong.

HI ,I built the USS San Francisco 1944 a few years ago ,and it was a really good kit .I used PE from Gold Medal Models which was easy to use and really enhanced the kit .In the meantime hers a pic of the completed Indy:

Wow, nice work Phil. She looks great.
Good progress with San Fransisco there Frankaplin. Presume that is the 1944 version (rather than the '42 version available).
I was reading about one of the sisters, USS Tuscaloosa, which was the only one of the class that served over this side and saw loads of action helping in European waters, and was in one operation along with HMS Belfast - that might be an interesting little diorama when the new Belfast kit is released.
