Having just bought a new Airfix DB Lancaster which had some of the transparencies damaged whilst in transit I asked Airfix to send me replacements, which as usual they did very promptly (great service).
As the main canopy was just about recoverable with some very careful buffing I tested it on an old version from the 70's that I'm building and eureka, it fits! For me if Airfix had re-issued the old kit with improved transparencies it would have made a huge difference and avoided the many attempts I've made to date to correctly cut out a vacuum replacement. I've not tried testing whether any of the other transparencies/turrets will also fit but I'm sure with some minor adjustments they will as well. So if like me you still have the old kit then contact Airfix and ask if they will send you the new transparencies.
Of course Airfix may not be prepared to do so but worth asking and offering to pay as they will make life so much simpler than the alternative, and probably cheaper. So far I've got through 3 Squadron replacement canopy sets and mucked all of them up!

Just to add that Airfix will send you any spare parts you need as I've just ordered some more to upgrade my old version build with new props, turrets and tail wheel. They will charge but well worth it in my opinion given the cost of the alternative after-market PE and resin sets. Excellent service which now allows me to breath new life into the old version I'm building, which was always pretty good but clearly not up to the latest edition.
