Well her indoors is not very happy with me ....... and to try to finish a few of the 'nearly finished' models laying around the house that I get so many complaints about I need an Airfix Vulcan AAR probe............ You see the White Valiant needs a probe before I can finish that, but I need the Camo version easily available to 'match' some of my work ........ I went in the loft and brought down a Vulcan kit - no probe I must have pinched that for some other job, but just couldn't resist starting it with all the associated mess of using the DB conversion to produce a B1A ......... After a full days work on Friday her patience snapped. The Polikarpov's are awaiting a friend making vacformed canopies for me, the Lavochkins, well the grey one is finished but I need that as reference to match the red one's build that is all finished except the aerial wire and a small splash of silver under the pitot. I think she's being unreasonable banning 'Vulcan' work until some of these are put away ...... so you can see how that Vulcan AAR probe would help me !!!!! The lounge parking lot. The kitchen parking lot. And she now claims to want to use the breadmaker behing all this - so inconsiderate Dad-1

Geoff, it seems to me mate that you need a space of your own. I can see that you've attempted to keep your modelling confined to various areas around the house, but let's face it mate, it's not working is it?
There are couple of suggestions I have for you which may or may not solve your problem.
(1) Convert the loft, a tad expensive but once done, you're king of all you survey and apart from that, you can always remove the ladder to restrict access.
(2) Buy a shed, less expensive option but you may find the odd gardening implement being placed in there for safety, and you're just too handy for those small jobs around the garden.
(3) Purchase a camper or caravan and park it on the drive or in a secluded spot in the garden. You can store a variety of kits and tools and the table is always there ready for that modelling session. It's also self contained, you can make a cup of tea whenever you want and leave breadcrumbs wherever you like. Actually, this may work out to be the best suggestion as you can move your workshop from place to place as the mood dictates, sort of take your hobby on holiday. You can also have friends over to discuss modelling topics, you can even start your own model club.
I hope the above suggestions have been helpful.

Hi Nick ... I had thought about a residential/holiday static caravan at the bottom of the garden ..... but that was when I was working from home and needed a decent office ..... now I'm retired I don't have the finance to do it - the heating bill would be sky high as I like being warm!! What I didn't include was the computer room/office picture where there are several other nearly finished jobs !!!!

That's it then, bigger shelves in the office ... oh, and a cupboard with a worktop, let's call it a fridge, you can keep the beer in it during the summer, and use it as a store cupboard in the winter.

Can't model after a beer ..... have trouble not cutting myself when sober - that started the disagreement yesterday - dropped a scalpel when making additional mess in the garage - gotta spread it around a bit you know - tried catching it, NOT a good idea, now typing is painfull as the cut's on the end of my right index finger ...... and I'm a two finger typist !!!!

I know how you feel as i've got a shed which is full, living room has a large stack and the loft has a lot sitting up there. Getting moaned at by the other half to get rid of something but didn't want to suggest it was her. (Say's me tongue in cheek) If someone could invent a shrink ray to make thing's smaller i'd be in line for one.

Look guys you need to get a little more creative....I've trained my other half to model as well so I can leave me stuff all over the place as she does the same as well.
PS Can anyone give us any tips on getting the front door open....It's a real bind when the postman has to put my new purchases in a basket so I can winch them in through the bedroom window.

Hi Proplinergeek, I can sell you an extension ladder ...... Teach her to model make, bet she'd want my best kits - no way. Mind you no sign of anyone offering me that AAR probe ...... This was the cause of the trouble - now I'm staining everything in the kitchen green ....... more grief ahead !! Dad-1

You see dad1 - I'm not that daft.....she does the tiny little people (you know the ones that you can't see let alone paint!!!!) and the vehicles ...she don't go anywhere near my kits at all.... In fact bought her a Russian heavy refueller kit for xmas.....and she bought me loads of aeroplane porn....you need to get new partners kiddies.

I did a partial loft conversion for my work space, the previous owners had laid out a reasonable plank floor and had one big strip light up and running, with in a year of moveing in I had a pair of skylights installed and another big strip light fitted...total expence was just shy of £400 (most of that was on the skylights). I also laid down some old carpet to cover over the gaps in the flooring.
Oh! i should point out that its not my house, its mum and dads ;D

Latecomers to threads, what are we to do with them? I can see all this clutter is harmful to one's mental health: still, that's acceptable if it produces the Red Stars aerobatic display team in their GeeBee Super Poliklumpoffs! I just filled one wall of the box-room with shelves ... then filled half the loft with shelves .... and learned to work on not more than a dozen projects at once. Get a grip, man!!
Regards, B.
