I'd be interested to know what you would give a bog standard Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 in Battle of Britain markings out of 10 in the "Originality of subject"?

Its not the most common thing but its still high up there. If you pull it off though early 109s do like very striking and impressive. originality about 3 / 10

Dead against 'Originality of Subject' if indeed it is still being used as a judging criteria for a percentage of the total marks achieved per entrant. If someone choses to build a very popular subject as opposed to choosing something obscure they should not be penalised for this within the marking system. If so, one has to ask 'Aren't we supposed to be judging a modellers ability just to actually build and finish models?' in order for it to be a level playing field in competition. In the past I have judged in the Civilian Vehicles Class, and had Originality of Subject and Decal Application as two headers to give separate marks to. So regardless of if a vehicle was something obscure or not, or whether it was a road car with just number plates as opposed to a F1 or Rally car plastered in decals I used to give a marking of 5 out of ten in all cases. This I felt evened things out a bit so the real judging was being done on the overall building and finishing quality of the model.
