I've been building the Airfix 1/72nd Gladiator.....a trip down memory lane as I must have been around ten years old when it was first released in Blue Plastic. Not much of it has changed. And my wife says if I act like a 10 year-old, then, for me, that's "grown up!!". Anyway, extensive clean-up was necessary due to mis-matched moulds, etc., but after that, it took about 4 minutes to glue the fuselage and lower wing together. No locating pins...proper modelling back then ! Individual interwing strutting that fits surprisingly well, allowing the top wing to be fixed before too long. I've just the tailplanes and u/c to add before spraying dull silver....for a French AF "Flyboy" of course! if you want a proper gladiator, unless you have a masachistic urge to modify, scratch-build, etc., go for another Gladiator. Even the decals have a strange combination of Dull Pre-War colours and BRIGHT WW2 shades. Never mind. Thanks AIRFIX for allowing me a spin into nostalgia....and I have 2 other Glads as well which'll end up in some WWI markings too.
Please, Revell....re-release the Matchbox gem!!

Are there any Glads in other scales Radish, can you get the Airfix 1/72nd one again. Nostalgia,'yep', thats what it is lol. I remember that one and built Faith, Hope and Charity along time ago, but with constant moves they all got lost. ;D

Yes, the Airfix kit is out again in all its glory, plus a 3-blade prop for the "Faith, Hope, and Charity" decal options....you can build all 3 if you've a mind to. The kit is incredibly basic, but fits together and builds very easily. The upper wing aligned very well with the individual struts. Other scales...the old Lindberg is still around in decining numbers, but can be made into a good model with a bit of effort. It looks very good as it is. The Roden kits are excellent, and they do a 1/72nd and 1/48th series. I've not tried others, but have very fond memories of the Matchbox kit in 1/72nd. I wish Revell would re-issue it (along with the Fury, Siskin and other '30s biplanes) Oh, and I'd be very grateful if Airfix re-issued the Demon.

I seem to rememember building a Heller Gladiator and it was a very good kit. Finished in Dark Earth/Dark Green with the 'light 'shades of both for the lower wing. Fully rigged with canopy slid back, it was very nice.

The Heller kit was nice, and there was a FROG one too.
