The USAF SIG theme for Telford this year is 'Aggressor & Adversary Forces'. Anyone care to join in ? Just finished. These are built from the Esci/Italeri F-5B kit with intakes and exhaust parts from the Sword T-38 kit. The exhaust was modified to include the fairing that connects the two afterburners on top. Other than modifying the wing to remove the leading edge extensions I have not made any of the other real changes needed to make a T-38 (thinner wheels, reducing the depth of he fuselage). First up is one the very first Aggressors in an 'experimental' desert camouflage, decals from the spares box: Second is one of the initial operational T-38s, decals from TwoBobs: Cheers, Haydn.

Nothing, but it's quite expensive... The Esci F-5B and Sword T-38 parts fit together almost interchangeably, so a little resin casting means 2 Esci "T-38"'s for the price of 1 Sword kit!

Just finished. These are built from the Esci/Italeri F-5B kit with intakes and exhaust parts from the Sword T-38 kit. What's wrong with the Sword kit, Haydn? When the Sword kit came out (1/72 scale) I was already working on converting four ESci F-5Bs into T-38As. I thought great, ditch the conversions and build T-38s from the box ! So I bought six Sword kits and started on four of them. For me two important id features of the T-38 are the intakes and the afterburner section. These are both cast in resin in the Sword kit (along with a wing centre section, nosewheel bay and come cockpit parts) but unfortunately the afterburner section did not have the distinctive wrap around section that joins the tops of the two afterburners. So now I had eight T-38s that required the right afterburner section and four that needed properly shaped intakes ! So I corrected one set of afterburners and made a mold for these and a pair of intakes and cast them in resin. I then weighed up the two kits. The Esci goes together really well and is nicely scribed. The Sword takes some fitting together and isn't particulary well scribed (and the main wings are a butt joint). I would not dismiss the Sword kit at all but the Esci kit goes together quickly and I have an Air Force to build ! Cheers, Haydn.

Thanks Haydn (and Christopher)
I have 1 Sword kit and many Esci/Italeri F-5s... I have a great interest in Agressors but thought that the only way to get a decent T-38 was to build the Sword kit..... it seems even that isn't good enough!
