Hi All
I'm newish to the modelling scene at least with an Airbrush !
I have just tried Alclad paint for the first time with not very good results, I am testing my skills on a Revell 1/48 Super Hornet I got cheap at Telford last month.
Anyway I undercoated the Jet Exhaust parts with Gloss Black (Revell Airbrush Email Color) left that to dry for a few days and then sprayed over it with Alclad Jet Exhaust, some has covered well but some areas have reacted and the paint has blistered badly....... What did I do wrong ?

It is probably a mismatch with your base colour.
I use either Alclad's own Gloss Black base or Hiroboys Zero Gloss Black.
Proves the need to try stuff before you use it on your latest fav build.

Good old Humbrol gloss black works as well, but I've had variable results with Plastikote and Halfords - sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. The key is probably the 'gassing out' time before applying the Alclad.

My own personal favourite as an Alclad base coat is Tamiya Gloss Black (X-1), thinned 50/50 with good quality cellulose (lacquer) thinners. Allow at least 24 hours before applying light coats of Alclad. So far (-and here I'm touching wood, crossing my fingers and looking for a black cat!-) it hasn't failed me.

Ayup tibs..
The only Alclad 'colour' that 'needs' gloss black or its proprietary stuff, is Polished Chrome. you can use your regular primer on everything else. And you shouldn't need to Use ANY thinners in Alclad. it's at the right consistency already for spraying... people use thinners to get it through tiny Needle gaps for detail work usually. for large areas it should be sprayed as any 'normal' paint, apart from the specific primer for polished Chrome.

The maker of the Silmarils is technically right (although 'Chrome' needs a glossy black base coat as well), but while not needing black, it is a good working primer for the whole range, and if you're applying a variety of surface finishes to an airframe, it saves a deal of preparation time.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions, I will be sanding down the parts and respraying again, this time not to thick a coat at at time ?
How long should I leave each coat before applying another as I didnt want to empty or clean the airbrush in between. Lazy I know but at the moment I am only getting an hour or so each day to model, sometimes only a few minutes as I pass my bench in between her chores !
