Hello all I have been airbrushing for years now, but I still cannot do a decent gloss, no matter what sort of paint I spray.
I use an fantasic IWATA which enables me to spray matts with no problems, but spraying gloss results in very small orange peel. I had the same problem with my AZTEK and Humbrol brushes. No matter what I do with PSI and thinning the results are the same.
Please help! My 1/32nd MC72 depends on it!

Gloss can be temperature dependant, are you in a cold garage or warm room in the house ??
Also, are you putting a mist coat on then a wet coat, or some other methof of building up the paint.

Hi Guys, I had the same experience recently with an F1 car. No matter what paint I used (including Vallejo and Tamiya gloss) all I could get was a matt white. i stripped the darned thoing back to bare plastic twice, and was on the vere of binning it, until had a eureka moment and hand brushed on a coat of Klear. Instant high gloss finish, perfect. added decals, and re-sealed with Klear to even up the sheen. I now have a new best friend.

I can get some good results spraying Humbrol gloss thinned with cellulose thinners. To avoid orange peel, I do a couple of mist coats and then a heavier coat spraying quite close to the model's surface. Rubbing down with Micromesh can also work wonders once the paint has had chance to harden off (say after a week).
