Hi All, I've been thinking about starting a model club in my area. Could anyone give me any idea how to start as i basically haven't got a clue. It would be nice to meet with others who share the same interests as you and pass on/give advice as a lot of us work in isolation. So if anyone can help with any ideas i would be very grateful. Thanks.

Rodders, first point of call would be the local library, check to see if there is already a model club in your area. There's always the local paper, both the daily or evening paper and the weekly free advertisers, ask if they would allow you advertise for members. There's also local radio, don't be shy, they often do a community special where they could ask for you if there are modellers in the area who may wish to join a like minded group. If you're an IPMS member, why not contact the editor of the magazine and ask if you could place an advertisement for members in your area? You've already made the first step in asking for advice, so, where are you and what are your interests and how can you be contacted? That was easy wasn't it?

Hi Southsix1 and Brian, Thanks for the advice, look like some good ideas. I'm located in Northwich in the middle of Cheshire. I know there's a club in Crewe which hosts the South Cheshire Militaire, but i can't drive, which is strange as i've been a Rover partsman for 30 years and most things happen on a Sunday or Wednesday night which is out for me. I model military aircraft and tanks. No particular era, just what appeals at the time. I'm just trying to finish my first allied tank. The Sherman Firefly in 1/72 from Dragon, then next will be a 21st Century 1/32 Macchi MC205. (bit of an eclectic mix) ;D I don't have internet at home, but can be contacted through my email address here. Forgive me i am a bit shy really and not very good at talking to people. I just need to test the waters and see if i can help to start a club off, and let the more talented confident modellers take it forward. Regards.

Rodders, not a problem. If there's anything I can do to assist you, please let me know. Have a look at the IPMS Branches list: www.ipms-uk.co.uk/branches_england.htm there maybe a club nearer than you think? If there are any members in the Northwich area who would like to make contact, Rodders is waiting to hear from you.
