Well i am really glad to see Airfix bringing out a 1/350 scale ship. I Hope they are going to bring more, say the Ark Royal in wartime setting, with the old string bags aboard in 1/350, now that would be great. Maybe some destroyers too. Looking forward to HMS Illustrious. 'yaa'.

Next one is Trafalgar. A sub. Won't be a big thing in 1/350th. As for Lusty being 'released' lets just say the marketing and sales should stay in touch with the production and logistics side of the business.
I have had a look at the review builds and sprue photos etc as posted. That stern piece is a right shocker. I will leave it to the fanboi's here to defend that. I was also wondering hard about the deck as it appears to stand proud of the hull by some margin but then I have done no research on this yet. Like most modern ships it seems bland in detail but I note WEM are already on the job. The fact their brass upgrade set costs more than the kit itself should be really noted. I have placed a kit on order. Looks like I will have to save up for the upgrade set so this one is headed for the loft and not the workbench. I was looking forward to building that too..

Overall, looks a good basis. The fit of the sern piece is a bit off, but nothing that will take a lot to cure. All it all considering what is in the box I reckon it is pretty good. I will certainly be up for at least one, plus of course WEM's goodies.

I can see some fun coming if you want to fill the ejection pin damage on the underside of the harriers. However a simple search on Hannants new website found some nice resin Sea harriers that might be nice to expand the squadron with. Not openned the box yet but with the size of the ship involved most kits in this catagory are single cast hulls. I wonder why Airfix went split hull.

Hmmm very impressed with the kit, good to know there are more Harriers as I feel these are under strength. The coloured chart is a good thing and notice that nearly all ship makers have these now. With the Sub following this will make a good Diorama.

Hi Could anyone tell me what the Humbrol paint numbers should be for the hull and deck, please? Regards, Alfie According to the colour plan; 127 (US Ghost Grey) is used for all the superstructure and other vertical surfaces. 64 (Light Grey) for the flight deck and 27 (Sea Grey )for the ski jump ramp and the line on the deck. 70 (Brick Red) for the Hull bottom and 33 (Black) for the waterline.

I feel the brick red (70) is to sharp for the hull. Maybe add some brown to the red brick of Humbrol to tone it down.

I see there is a Photo-etch for this kit. At £50.00 pounds for this I feel is a bit expensive as its only one fret. I hope some other manufacture brings this out at a more reasonable price in the future.

I just went looking for the pictures John at Wem placed on another forum site and couldn't find them sadly. Compared to all the other frets this one is by far the most pricy but for that price we would all expect it to be extensive. You also for best effect need to shell out another £5 odd for the air arm fret. Of course this all boils down to exactly how much of a 'swiss watch' do you want from the model? I love the look of a model that has been all tricked out with 1/350th railings and the such like but I am painfully well aware I will be afraid to breath near it once i start adding the railings... Where did you see the 'one fret' if you don't mind me asking? I thought there were at least two in what John posted but my memory may be playing tricks. From my point of view i will hold off building till i see what add ons become available. Swiss watches look nice but if you have fat fingers like me you are kind of limited as to what can be used. Still i am always amazed by the fact that kits can still be made by big manufacturers that require the attentions of the aftermarket industries to set right. And if you are the only game in town then the price is set accordingly...

What I would like is a conversion kit to revise this into the early HMS Invincble from around 1982, ie the Falklands time.
This would need a new foredeck to put the Sea Dart SAM launcher back, along with the type 909 guidance radar domes on the superstructure, I think the ski jump was changed so would need to change back, and other peripheral equipment on the masts, SCOT domes etc, and of course we would need Sea Harrier FRS1s and Sea Kings for the flight deck, and to top it off some Harrier GR3s.
I believe the deck tractors haven't changed, not only between now and then but since the previous Ark Royal (ie used to tow Buccaneers and phantoms)
