Looking great steve, and your right the sand shields did not last long, It looks the part. Seems Napoleon and Darth D know you better than I lol ;D. I have done a few Dragon kits, notable the SdKfz 251/7 and on the 17 AA version,(thats going to be a long job). Panther G and M2 Half track plus some T34/76s, as you say theres a lot of spruces on these kits, some make good headlamps and so on, also find there are lots of extras for the spares box or should I say box's lol . Looking forward to the Sherman side of things, watching your great effort with anticipation, 'nice pictures too'.

Now then, Got some paint on today. First on was a coat of Tamiya 'Nato Black' which is a good match for 'blue-black' as used in WWII, so i've read anyhow The areas that were to remain this colour were masked out using Silly Putty. I then mixed up a 'light mud' colour from Tamiya Khaki lightened with Matt White and a touch of Buff. this was then sprayed onto the model. When dry the Silly Putty mask was removed. I had to do a bit of touching up along the edges of the black to smooth out the curves a bit. At first I was going to respray it, but the more I looked at it the more I liked it. I think it will look ok once its weathered down a bit. More later. Cheers, Steve

Now then, All glossed up and ready for decals. You can see from this pic where I had to touch the black up with a brush. Hopefully once its weathered and matted down it wont be as obvious The finiish on the real things weren't all that perfect anyhow The DS tracks are very nice with great detail. They took paint really well and are nice and flexible, which means they can be joined together befor placing on the model. Next up will be decals, washes and weathering. Cheers, Steve

Now then! The Sherman III is finished! I realy enjoyed this one, especially the painting & weathering side of things. I've tried to capture the look of a dusty tank after a road march! The roundel on the turret is meant for another scheme, but I liked it so it went on ;D And finally, here's one of my dodgy figures Now you see why my tanks are always without crews I'm rather chuffed with it ;D Next job is to give it a quick blast with matt varnish and to do the base for it. Comments welcome. Cheers, Steve

Steve
Excellent job - love the scheme and the figure is pretty good, certainly better than mine, my models always have that 'crew just legged it out of shot' look too.
Love the subtle 'dusting' and silvered tracks - top job.
Got the Dragon Pz IV Smart Kit in the loft calling to me - wont be long now my precioussss.

Thanks Paul,
That figure is probably the best of a bad lot! I've spy'd one of those Pz IV Smart Kits, the F1 I think. Have to say i'm very, very tempted!

I think Darth-D is talking about the dirt between the finger nails of your brit soldier. That always shows up on a figure, from manufacture ring, this seems to happen to most figures on the hand having to be cleaned around the nails lol. ;D Shows up very clear on pictures, but not so clear with the naked eye, 'so', the reference to knuckleduster lol .

Now then, Simple resin base knocked up for the Sherman. Sprayed with Tamiya Flat Earth. Then raised bank and centre line painted with water/pva mix and green railway flock? applied. After this had dried the excess was knocked off it was given a quick blast of Tamiya Yellow-Green to tone it downa little. A wash of sap green oil paint along with cadmium yellow was then brushed on in random patches. The road was also given a dirty brown oil wash, then drybrushed with Humbrol Sand and Khaki Drill. The edges were given a going over with dark brown pastel dust, this was also applied in patches to the grass. The tank was placed on the base and an earth coloured pastel was dusted around the base, tracks & running gear. This helps the model belong to the base and not look like its just 'plonked onto it' Placed onto an MDF base I picked up at a show for a couple of quid! And finally!!!! A recce pilots view of the tank moving up the road Cheers, Steve
