Hi guys
Just joined site so please be gentle. Just wondering what people do with the pilots in the kits. I only ask as in 1/72 scale they are very small, so do people bother with them? What about other scales?
As a side question, do you have to have the figure to enter competitions (not at the quality yet myself)?
Cheers
Dave

Hi Barneyadi and welcome to IPMS Forums,
As for pilots, its a personal choice really, if your wanting to show off your lovely cockpit painting/detailing skills then a pilot, especially in 1/72 scale, is a bad idea...
Most models I see at the shows dont have pilots in them but I have seen them in the diorama's. I personally throw them away :s

If anyone does not keep or use any 1:72 scale pilot figures, then I wouild be very happy to take them away from you.
Too many kits now come without said pilot figure and as I always build with wheels up and in flying configuration, the lack of pilots just causes me to canabalise and to seek out other sources.
Any contributions greatly received

Most modellers (myself included) throw them away. They're almost always pretty poor in terms of moulded quality, or they're too big or too small. Worse still, they're often a generic shape used in lots of kits so they might not even have the right gear, helmet and so on. Likewise, if you put it in the cockpit, you'd then be obliged to attach all the straps and buckles too. Consequently, most folks just don't bother, especially when you can see more of the interior if the pilot is out of the way.
It's a case of personal choice though. You do what makes you happy!
