Hello All,
With the imminent arrival of the Airfix Nimrod and all of us with those pre-orders just waiting for Hannants to deliver (how do I explain the £38 just after Christmas). I thought now would be an opportune time to get the ball rolling on what versions folks intend to build.
Mine is going to have to be an AEW version, I understand that some decal companies were showing some previews of proposed sheets at SMW07 which sadly I couldn't get to this year as I now have to actually work for a living. What Sqns were on the sheets does anyone know, and I am sure that I read somewhere that one of the versions that could be built from the kit was an R1 of 51 Sqn. Does anyone know if that is true or not please?
Lastly did Aviation news ever do the Nimrod 1/72nd plans? If they did was the AEW version included because some how (if Aeroclub don't oblige ...please John consider it) I'm going to have to make up some 1/72nd nose and tail radomes. I reckon they are going to have to have balsa cores but a scale plan of them of some description is a must before I start. Can anyone out there help please, has anyone got any scale plans?
Fingers crossed.
Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to all members.
Ian S.

Not building one myself but it is John at Aeroclub not Malcolm.

Ian, I spoke to the nice man from Airfix, and got a look at the kit bits and plans, ALAS no AEW !!!! I wanted to do the AEW version as well, to remind me of 3 wasted years working on the damm thing !!! ;D I've got loads of pics (somewhere), but no drawings. You can make any of the 3 early versions, Mk1, Mk2 and 51s queer one !! Hope this helps, Dave

deejay,
You weren't at Waddo were you during the debacle? Good news about the 51 Sqn version, it will have to be the option if I can't get any radome plans.
Cheers

Ian!
You made it back onto the forum! Well done.
I have decided to purchase Nimrod and will be doing R1, Model Alliance are going to produce sheet and you can find reviews on the web, will be ordering a sheet myself.....Will quite happily share what I don't use off the sheet.
Will try and find plans for AEW as well.........

Ian,
Explaining £38 is not too bad ..... I've got 3 on order - since Hannants started taking pre-release reservations. At least one is for wealthy RAF employed son, the others, well I put my hands up to them. I suppose they're not cheap, but then I bought Vulcans at £4.50 each and that was a good investment (nearly built them all now). Just hope I live long enough to get them done! If not I suppose my son will inherit my sea-trunk of silver.

Hoping that the decals allow me to build this one. Number XV254, which has appeared at Fairford several times, and the only Nimrod that I've been able to go inside (Fairford 2006) just before I took this photo.

You know, that's quite a scary thought dad1. I've got three of them, (sons), and the thought of that lot pawin' thro' my plastic stash is SCARY!!
Think I'll just stay alive to ensure it doesn't happen eh?
Very nice piccy Mr Surgeon, very nice indeed. Who's going to count all the Aerials then and more importantly, will Mr Airfix supply them?

Ian, Yes I was !!!!! i spent a lot of time in the software palace, then the Radar bay, before digging my way to Lynham (long way, but worth it ) ;D The one thing I did'nt look for in the box was the 'Biggest fighter plane in the World' option, a falklands special with sidewinders !!!! Cheers, Dave

Hello All,
Any one got any idea when Model Alliance Nimrod decals are becoming available? Or where they can be ordered from?

Hi,
I intend to stock the Model Alliance Nimrod decals. The kit itself is also available to pre-order from Relish Models.
Regards,

Well the post (Parcel Force) has just been and delivered a big box with 3 Nimrods - what a huge decal sheet ! Not opened the plastic bags yet as I'm not ready to start - but bless Hannants, these were ordered in December 2005 and their system remembered and received a day or so after they received their delivery - well done.
