Hi all I've put this in general chat because I wasn't sure if it fitted anywhere else. I'm wondering if anyone has had any dealings with a Chinese internet-based retailer called ImportHobby... importhobby.comTheir website looks reasonably 'legit' and their prices (including shipping) quite competitive. They have a couple of kits that I'm interested in which I can't find anywhere else and, having bought from China before, I was going to order them... However, neither of the two payment options seem to work. The Paypal link (my preferred option) seems to take me to a developer site and Google Checkout just draws a blank... There is no trading address that I can find and the only way to contact them seems to be via an email address - to which I've sent a query and received no response. So.... all pointers are telling me to steer clear but does anyone know otherwise? Has anyone bought from them? I know the signs aren't good but I'd hate to miss out on something just because I'm having technical problems. Can anyone help or advise? Cheers Chris

Hi Ian The lighting on the model is good - nice and even... so can I just ask that you try and do something about the fold/crease in the blue background? You need to get rid of the 'angle' - make the fabric into a smooth curve. That'll make my life so much easier when you submit an article for the magazine.... ;D Cheers Chris

Just returned from my first outing at the Bolton show. Excellent.... very friendly, lots of familiar faces and hot pot to boot!
Thanks to all involved in organising a really great show.

Don't get me started on this.... whilst I take THC's point, I still can't see the justification - particularly where it's an existing kit with a new decal sheet... Coincidentally, I posted the following as an email to a few modelling chums this very morning...
"New 1/48 Hasegawa Harrier (re-issue of existing moulds with new decals) = £45
New 1/48 Revell Eurofighter Typhoon (new moulds for 2-seater) = £19
I think that the only stores provided in the Harrier kit, other than a pair of tanks and the unique gun pods, are a couple of Sidewinders. The Typhoon comes with a shedload of ordnance!
I know both can be had more cheaply but something just doesn't add up..."

Impressive - and a great use of space.... Mind you, looking at the first picture, I thought you'd built it over the window!!

Welcome on board, Glen.... was just thinking that your childhood modelling experiences were remarkably similar to mine - and a lot of others on here I guess. I'm slightly older than you but just spotted that you're in East Yorkshire, which is where I grew up, too.
Have you attended the Bridlington & Wolds Branch meetings? They're a friendly bunch - or so they tell me!

Hi Dingo
Of course you should tell the originator of the artwork. It's their copyright and, unless they have licenced it to someone else, it's been stolen and they are deprived of the income that their work should generate. Given that the other site is in Russia, there may not be much they can do about it, unfortunately....
As with all copyright issues though, the way you should look at it is that the person creating the artwork should be the person being paid for it. Why should someone else benefit? I appreciate that you downloaded these particular models for free but it's still depriving Fiddlersgreen of income.

Coincidentally, SAM Publications are covering the Seasprite in the latest issues of MAMI and SAMI... the former has some pics of NZ aircraft and includes a colour profile. Hitting the shops any time now. Unfortunately, as seems to be commonplace of late, there are no colour descriptions accompanying the profiles.... which always strikes me as a missed chance. We all seem to like profiles but they're much less useful without a description of what the colours are!!!

Hi Peter
I'll add this event to the Mag listings but, if you haven't yet done so, could you please let the Editor have official confirmation? Any additional details would be very useful as well....

Hi Simon Rob may be able to help you with the specific answers to your questions but I'd just like to 'jump in' on the ejection seat reference. I was a RAF seat specialist although it's been quite a while since I left the mob. The first generation Hawks were fitted with the Martin Baker Mk. 10B, as opposed to the Mk. 10A in the Tornado and the Mk. 10H in the Sea Harrier. Essentially, this was the same seat adapted to the different aircraft types - as you might imagine. The Mk. 10 has been very successful and variants have been fitted to a wide range of cockpits over the years and the seat has been adapted and developed over an extended period. A version of the Mk. 10L is, I believe, fitted to new generation Hawks. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of the date when the RAF changed the original Hawk seat headboxes... However, I doubt that it happened overnight. More likely, it would have been done to the normal seat servicing schedule so the modification would have rolled through the fleet over several months. I suggest you try and look at dated photographs of your particular subject. Luckily, the difference is very noticeable. The subject of aftermarket ejection seats for models has long been of interest to me - particularly because modellers often go to the trouble of sourcing a particular Mark for a particular subject. Unfortunately, because of the wide number of variants of some Marks, a generic seat may still be 'wrong'. For example, the Mk.4 was fitted to an enormous number of aircraft types and the ones in a Jet Provost looked quite different to those fitted to Lightnings or French Jaguars! The subject is something of a 'minefield' so I'll leave it there! Chris

Even Mac users should be able to read that format. Actually, it's usually the other way around - I can open most things on my Macs. However, depending upon what version of the Mac OS your friend has, he should be able to read Word files in Preview. No need to open the file - just select it and press the space bar. I can read 90% of files this way...

Cheers Rob Nicely done... Wish I'd known you were down at Farnboro'. I'd have come and had a look - although I was only there on the Monday. Chris
