Thanks Haydn (and Christopher)
I have 1 Sword kit and many Esci/Italeri F-5s... I have a great interest in Agressors but thought that the only way to get a decent T-38 was to build the Sword kit..... it seems even that isn't good enough!

Just finished. These are built from the Esci/Italeri F-5B kit with intakes and exhaust parts from the Sword T-38 kit. What's wrong with the Sword kit, Haydn?

Ian
This particular decal company gets plenty of praise. In my opinion though, they also make more than their fair share of mistakes.... Don't get me wrong, it's good to have a company covering these subjects. I just wish they'd go the extra mile sometimes.

Yeah I've been to a couple of shops and enquired since I posted that and it would appear that you need to buy a completely new scanner/printer to have the neg adaption. I already have a good one that scans, prints and photocopies so I don't want to lay out on a new one. I was kinda hoping for some device that did just negs/trans but it appears they don't exist Wolfie. There are quite a few dedicated film scanners available. There are less coming onto the market with the advent of digital photography, of course. Do a search on Amazon, Ebay or Pricerunner... As mentioned above, they aren't that cheap but you can pick up older models that will suffice - a decent one should be less than £100. Watch for the interface... the Canon FS2710 that I still use is SCSI only. We're talking 35mm here. If you have larger format negs/transparencies to scan it's unlikely to be worthwhile investing in a dedicated film scanner unless you have lots and lots of material and lots and lots of money to spare! The best option here is a flatbed with film scanner attachment/option - and there are many of these around. The scan quality is adequate for most purposes and the more you spend the better it gets (usually). If you need to scan for very high quality reproduction, there is the option of finding an agency who will do that for you using a drum scanner - but I don't think we need go that far!

Chaps..... Just a thought. The proportion of IPMS (UK) members who actually log onto these forums is rather small (though growing, I'm sure) and therefore this may not be the most likely place to make contact. Naturally, potential members (non-IPMS) are likely to be scarcer still!
Might I suggest that a more direct approach may well be necessary/ In other words, don't expect them to come to you.... go out and get 'em. Show them what IPMS has to offer and round 'em up!

Cleethorpes... is that the shop on the seafront? I seem to recall getting there just after it closed when I visited last year. I could only look at the models in the window!!!

There is (or was) a Morlands Models in Newcastle-under-Lyme. I've recently been told by Stafford Branch members that it's also closing down, though.
I'm also aware of a company called Sundowners in the same area but I know nothing about them (just seen a vehicle with Sundowner Models a while back). There are also a number of shops specialising in RC stuff...
A new shop has opened in Stafford in the last few weeks. Understandably, it's not strictly a LMS - the proprieter has an interest in model rocketry but the shop sells toys and plastic kits as well. This is a new business and he's still finding his way. If you want to find HIM, the shop is in Marston Road.

Well, I made it to Belfast city centre on Saturday. It was late afternoon and, after a very early start from home (4am) and a busy day, I'd not given any real thought to model shops.... With a bit of time to spare I hopped on the Belfast bus just to have a quick look at the city as I've never been before. I came across a model shop quite by chance and I have to say that my experience was pretty positive - albeit very brief. The shop was about to close and I dived in desperately! The guys running the place were friendly, quite chatty in fact. They seemed happy to allow me time to have a browse - although I felt guilty and didn't do my usual trick of scouring the shelves 3 times before buying the cheapest thing I could find! They told me something of the history of the business and even mentioned that there was another model shop not that far away. I ended up buying a Tamiya kit that I'd been on the lookout for - it was a treat 'cos I'm usually a right skinflint. Maybe it's the lack of any LMSs in my neck of the woods but I left feeling that I'd definitely go back for another look (if I'm ever in Belfast again). Incidentally, getting the kit through airport security was fun and games... but that's another story!

Hey Up!
I've been following this thread with interest as I'm visiting Belfast next month.... well, I was thinking of popping into the city to look up model shops. Don't think I'll bother!
As you say though, if we (the customers) are getting good prices and good service via the Internet, their profits will speak for themselves. I am usually saddened to hear of LMS' closing but it does sound as though, in this case, it might be no great loss!

Recently visited to two of the above.
Monk Bar Models was a bit of a disappointment. Seemed to be mainly devoted to die-casts and trains. I didn't find anything to spend good money on.
Croppers in Sunny Brid' was a revelation! Quite an Aladdin's Cave and certainly well stocked. Better than the days when it was on The Prom.
