Does anyone have any photos/drawings (anything!) which shows the size and location of the camera port on the underside of the aircraft please? I'm building example 5F+CM captured during the Battle of Britain and subsequently test flown as AX772 but only have a couple of low res pics showing a large hatch/opening between the wings . This would be too large for just the camera port so presume they show the complete panel removed from the underside of the aircraft which the clear port would have been centred in? Regards Colin.

About twenty seconds in you see them bringing the camera and film box to the aircraft in very clear footage that might be of some help if it the same version. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzQ8N30NEiMIt also looks like the camera does not fill the hatch and sits high within the fuselage, not flush. Hope of some use Nige

Nige,
Great, this is by far and away the best info I've now got on the C5. Judging by the recessed edges around the square opening it looks like there is probably a panel that fits externally to cover the camera once it's been installed to then make the fuselage flush (and keep the wind out!). The pics I have of the captured 5F+CM show the underside to be flat/flush so the whole thing was probably painted over when they did the yellow paint job on the undersides. Interestingly the aircraft in the clip is 5F+OM and judging by the spinners/engines and camoflage scheme would also seem to be a C5 from the same unitof 4(F)/14 around 1940.
Thanks again. Colin.

Excellent and bookmarked, thanks!
I have vague childhood memories that "5F+CM" was the subject of the decals in the first Airfix Bf110 kit - the particular example I had was in the "Dogfight Double" boxing with the "JE:J" Spitfire IX.

. Many thanks to Mike for the e-mail with the heads-up !
Kagero brochures on the Me 110 # 16 & 21 (Vol I & II) yield some general info, pics and drawings on recce equipment and placement,
as does Me 110 by Petrick/Mankau and "Recce for Rommel"
Generally however there is not very much researched data available on recce 110's and units unfortunately.
Just to remember - recce 110's had no cannon armament fitted and sometimes even no nose guns,
I'm also hoping for Eduard or QB to come to the help of us by providing Cameras as aftermarket sets - otherwise we shall have to make our own...

Just discovered that the Dragon Arado 234-C3 kit has two cameras to build a photo recce version and these look the correct type for the Me110C5 as well.
Happy days!

A little late on this, but here are 2 drawings that should help you: www.luftwaffe-experten.org/forums/uploads/monthly_02_2011/post-129-0-30106100-1298119488.jpgwww.luftwaffe-experten.org/forums/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-1-0-29020400-1345912719.jpgIf you can't see them, it's probably because you have to join the Luftwaffe Experten Message Board first. Easy to do, and some really knowledgeable Luftwaffe people there. www.luftwaffe-experten.org/forums/By the way, the sliding panel covering the camera window is internal, just like the ones in the A234 and Me410 recce versions. Cheers, Larry
