MikeC posted on the Locate & Cement forums about this SIG so I thought I'd drop by and say hello. I'm a member of IPMS Farnborough and my modelling interests are varied from Aircraft to Armour to Sci-Fi to frankly whatever takes my fancy!
As for the theme of Reconnaissance, I have a liking for the CVR(T) family of vehicles, stemming from being given a ride in a Scorpion when I was a teenager! To that end, this year I built two versions of the CVR(T). First one of the 4 Scorpions that made it down to the Falklands in 1982, 23A of 3 Troop, 'B' Sqn Blues and Royals - this one:
and here is my version:
Then over the Summer I built a more modern Scimitar from 2006, with the LEP upgrade, enhanced armour and bar armour additions. For this I used the Castoff models update set as the basis and scratch built the bar armour. This was my inspiration:

and here is my version:
Unfortunately, the day after this was completed I took it to my "photostudio" to take some photos, but an accident cased this to happen:
Thankfully, the damage was repairable but when I reattached the gun barrel, I managed to put it back on slightly askew and I didn't notice it until I was carrying the model back from the competition tables at Telford where it had come nowhere, much to my disappointment. Well no wonder when the barrel was from one particular angle so obviously crooked. however from almost any other angle its hardly noticeable!
The bar armour is entirely scratch built:
and now I know how to do it (there was a LOT of trial and error during the learnign process) I am planning on doing it again - this time with a Samson recovery vehicle and eventually I aim to be able to build one of the brand new Scimitar 2 that were introduced to Afghanistan in 2011.
So that is my interested in Recce
Regards,
Andrew
