Hi New to the UK branch.I've been a USA member for over 12 years and Canada for a couple.I started back in the Fifties building with my dad.I stopped building for along time ( you know girls cars and other things on my mine.) I started back up in the late 80"s. I build mostly sailing ships plastic.A little bit of WWI and older cars. My wife and I are coming to the UK this summer for a vacation and belated 40 anniversary. Hello Rod and welcome to the forum. You say that you're coming to the UK for a visit in the summer and one of your interests is sailing ships? ... I don't know what your itinerary will be but may I recommend the Albert Dock and Maritime Museum in Liverpool, it's an amazing visitor experience: www.albertdock.com/You could also postpone your visit if that's possible and visit SMW (Scale Modelworld): www.smwshow.com/ ... it's the IPMS (UK) 50th anniversary this year and the show will be really special

Hii Rod,
Welcome aboard. If you're looking for inspiration in the sailing ship line, it depends how much time you have; I can certainly recommend a trip to Portsmouth to visit both HMS Victory and HMS Warrior, and to see the remains of Mary Rose (Henry VIIIs flagship, recovered from the Solent in 1982). It's about an hour and a half from London by train (unless they've speeded up the line since my day) and the Harbour station is directly outside the Historic Dockyard.
Also, just across the harbour in Gosport you can find the Submarine Museum, or still in Portsmouth the D-Day Museum.
All highly recommended.
Disclaimer - I am not in the pay of Portsmouth tourist board. ;-)

Rod, Still more to add to that list -The Cutty Sark and the maritime museum at Greenwich in London (the latter with a huge collection of period ship models). -Also the Royal Naval Dockyards at Chatham -SS Great Britain in Bristol The Discovery (Scott of the Antarctic) is now in Dundee - used to be in London - so it would be a trek to get there (but worth the trip). HMS Belfast is rather more modern but it's moored in central London. Regards, John
