Hi, I'm not happy with the quality of the paint texture after spraying with my airbrush. I am using an Iwata airbrush and compressor, spraying Vallejo Model Air acrylic, (Thinned), but still seem to get a grainy finish. This is not necessarily obvious to the naked eye on say a 1/72 scale kit but is glaringly obvious when photographed up close. My most recent aircraft project when photographed, looked like it was made from cast iron ! Which would never had gotten off the ground ! Please can someone tell me where I'm going wrong. Thanks, Scott signing off...

What thinner, & how thin? I generally use acrylics from Tamiya & Lifecolor, thinned with either tap water or the manufacturers thinner, generally no more than 50:50 but often in a 40:60 mix, paint to diluent. I use a Neo airbrush at quite low pressure & this particular combo of paint, dilution & low pressure seems to work for me.

Scotty, I learnt an old car paint sprayer's trick. Once you have put on your top coat spray some neat compatable thinners with a couple of very quick passes across the work whilst it is still wet. Might be worth a try, but experiment on some scrap pieces first as you will need to get the hang of it.
