Hello everyone! Its my first post so be gentle! I am preparing for the build of three Skyraiders and for one I want to have it with the Mk* 300-gallon belly tank slung underneath. I am struggling to source one in 1/72 and wonder if anyone out there has any advice. I had been steered towards the F8F as a source, but "no", and then the P38, again a "no". I've now seen that the F-84 Thunderjet series had a similar tank and so I'm looking at a bit of conversion work on one of them unless any of you have any other suggestions. Hoping for some great ideas! Thanks. Martin

Well, clearly not a lot of experience out there with the AD-4! Never mind, onwards and upwards! I've managed to craft a tank from an F-84G under-wing tank. Despite these being 265-gallons the dimensions are incredibly similar. So, with a cup of tea on the side, I set about taking off the side flanges in readiness for my own application of a "seam", which I intend to represent with 0.5mm square rod. The tank itself has had to be blunted at the rear end and I'll have to add a further small fin on the top, again with the 0.5mm rod. So, I'm underway! Today I tackled the under-wing pylons which are quite different from the A-1E/F/G/H/J. Success! The next daunting job will be the side access doors. I've filled the lines where the speed brakes were in readiness for re-scribing! Fingers crossed! If I seem excited please bear in mind that this is the first build I've attempted in 35 years! I can't wait to get going again tomorrow! Martin

Nearly there! Sprayed the first couple of silver coats today. I now have another question: I want to varnish once done - I don't want to use Klear - so what would be best to use for this? Also, matt or satin? I was considering Humbrol satin but would take your advice. Thanks a lot.

Humbrol Satin is ok Martin, just needs a really good stir! Sorry it's a late reply to your post, hope you got sorted? I'm a bit of a Skyraider fan myself along with its cohort the F105 THUNDERCHIEF.

Thanks mate. They are done now and the images are in the gallery. I'm a big Thud fan too, capped by a couple of visits to operating bases in the US in the 1980s! I have now just about finished an F-84F and now embarking on an RF-84F, another of my fave machines!!!! I've done the Thunderstreak in matt cote over nat metal and it looks great! Martin
