The Society takes a lot of time and trouble to organize and run this tribute to our class and special trophy winners, but sitting in the room I made a couple of observations during the ceremony.
Firstly, quite a number of winners did not turn up to receive their trophies. For one of the trophies that was sponsored I think by the REME, two of their own representatives were in attendance to present it. However, the trophy winner did not attend to receive it.
Secondly, some of the returnable trophies had not come back, depriving the next recipient of being awarded the trophy on the day. Those affected recipients put on a brave smile when called up only for a handshake of congratulations under the circumstances, but their body language showed their disappointment.
Come on Guys! This is the World's premier scale model show so please give the winners ceremony the respect it deserves by attending if you are a class winner on the day, or if you won a returnable trophy the year before by ensuring that it is back in time for the next winner to receive. Remember that returnable trophies have been given to IPMS in good faith by their sponsors, whether individuals or organisations to be used appropriately.
