due to advancing years and deteriorating eyesght, what can anyone suggest as an improvement on the mark 1 eyeball?

For some time now my eyeballs have been less than perfect, and I have been using an optivisor, which enables me to do decent 1/72nd scale stuff with no difficulties.

I've been using an optivisor-type gadget for years, but I don't recall exactly what brand name it had. It's indispensible for close work - mine has interchangable lenses of different powers so I can swithc to high power for really tiny bits. Also has a battery-powered headlight over the lenses, though I never need to use it because I also use an Aura cold-light lamp over the modelling desk, giving daylight colours so no worries about yellow light from the room lamps.
Cheers

I got my optician to make me a set of reading glasses for close work.

You could try Squires Model & Craft Tools, in Bognor Regis. They have a range of headband magnifiers, ranging from £15.99 to £39.99. All of their items (above a total of £7.50)include postage, and delivery can be as little as 3 days. www.squirestools.com, or sales@squirestools.com. I've used them for over 20 years, and they're designed to clear ordinary spectacles, as well. Patience

.......one of the Optivisors i've used had a 4X lenz as standard with the option to purchase (@ minimal cost) a 5X, 6X or 7X......changing 'em out was mere seconds and voila' .....yer in business....... ......the Optivisor i have now, uses a 4X lenz as standard with the option to flip down into place a 5X, which i've found to be more than sufficient magnification......unless you're intending to detail every square mm of what's on your bench.........
