Hi, Im going to have a go with my first vacform canopy and I have no idea how to fix it. Whats the best glue to use ? do I have to use plasticard strips to increase the 'purchase area' and does it have to be dunked in klear as it doesn't look particularly clear. Finally masking,is the tamiya tape method ok or is there the danger of slicing too deeply in to the canopy ?Any help would be appreciated. Ta.

One bit of advice. If you dip it in Klear, then carefully applied superglue can be used to attach it. Dipping it first will reduce the possibility of fogging the canopy. Alternatively, PVA glue can be used.

For vacform canopies I always used RC Modellers glue - see inside SAM for the advert - about £4 a bottle P & P included. I don't think theres much you can do about making the canopy clearer, some vac canopies are very clear anyway - thats often the reason they're produced - as replacements for thicker injection moulded ones. You shouldn't need any additional strip, just cut to a correct fit, run a fine bead of RC glue onto the contact edge then tape it onto the fuselage - tape not touching the joint - and then let it dry overnight. A thin fillet of glue run all around the edge after the initial tacking may be a good idea and just smooth of the excess before it dries - its water soluble when wet. Might be a good idea to use a bit of tamiya tape on the frame then to protect the clear area. Never used Clear but a a brushed coat after the joint has dried might be your best bet.
