Can anyone think of a decent model shop within a 20 mile radius of the centre of Stoke? City Centre Models in Hanley has gone, Bagnalls in Stafford went years ago, apart from T'internet any suggestions? Hannants would be a reasonable option if speed was not an issue but if its paint you want, and only paint, mail order seems to be a problem these days as Hannants can't post paint on its own - must be with a kit. Last time I needed paint I had to order an Airfix Tucano (not a huge issue as I didn't have one before!). Thanks Simon

I contacted this chap and it turns out that he is the secretary of the Staffordshire Moorlands Models club, not a shop! That still leaves Stoke-on-Trent without a single model shop. I recently contacted Humbrol to see who held their range. There are 2 retailers who buy directly - ie not through a wholesaler - and one is in Congleton and the other is in Stafford (the Co-op), both of whom do indeed have the full range - but Stafford Co-op tell me they are still waiting for a delivery from Airfix.
There seems to be a retail oportunity here, but then if you can't get the kits, you can't sell much!
Unless of course,someone knows differently............

There is (or was) a Morlands Models in Newcastle-under-Lyme. I've recently been told by Stafford Branch members that it's also closing down, though.
I'm also aware of a company called Sundowners in the same area but I know nothing about them (just seen a vehicle with Sundowner Models a while back). There are also a number of shops specialising in RC stuff...
A new shop has opened in Stafford in the last few weeks. Understandably, it's not strictly a LMS - the proprieter has an interest in model rocketry but the shop sells toys and plastic kits as well. This is a new business and he's still finding his way. If you want to find HIM, the shop is in Marston Road.

As far as I'm aware, Model Hobbies is an online trader - not a LMS. I stand ready to be corrected!

Correct, LMS is online only - don't even think about it!
Luckily we have E-Models as well. They hope to be properly retail by June but I can pick up orders from their new premises and aviod postage now - thats the theory anyway. I have an order in this minute and expect to get a call this week to tell me when the order is available but you have to pay up front, ie order through the website first.
I suggest we keep this facility a bit quiet for the time being in case droves of modellers visiting their premises before June causes them problems - we don't want to kill the golden goose!
I would suggest you ask them each time you want to order to see if its possible to pick up an order from their premises. They're a nice bunch and I'm sure they would accomodate a resaonable request, but, as I said, we don't know what restrictions they may be operating under.
