A real big thank you to IPMS.
Since joining IPMS earlier this year our membership has doubled.
Every single person who has walked through our door has found us thanks to IPMS.
So much to do, to get the club into shape, but at least we are now pulling away from the Abyss.

I thought it time for a brief update. What a year this is turning out to be. I started out the year hoping that I could have recruited 1 new member to deem my chairmanship a success. We now have 10 new members and the year is not over yet. We have had some good responses to our website which has proved a boon. I have managed to organise an alternative Xmas function, more about that after the event. I personaly haven't managed to build anything, let alone complete anything, but, I think the members that know me at the club are relieved that that is the case. If any IPMS members are driving through our part of the country on meetings night feel free to drop in and say hello. Yours sincerely David Lewis www.newburyscalemodelclub.org.uk

Great stuff David!
Our club at Bolton has had a resurgence this year as well.
Guess the hobby isn't as bad as some of the doom mongers would have us believe!.
See you at SMW and you can tell me about the year. I'm particularly interested in how you've recruited so many folk - it may be helpful for some of our other branches who are struggling.
Cheers,
Rob M.

I,m happy to say that I am one of Daves recent joiners, and am having a great time, with a brilliant bunch of lads, and I think this club has a really bright future. Well done Dave, you,ve done a great job since I,ve known you. Now I,m just going to have to sit you down with a glue pot and paintbrush, and show you how to use them properly!!!

Its time for a Branch Update.
I was handed the Club Chairmanship in late 2007.
There was just 5 of us left.
I was the only one still working with the remaining members all retirees.
As a Club we couldn't even afford to pay the monthly rent on the room we used as a Club meeting place.
Things couldn't have looked much bleaker.
Since then, things have changed.
We had potentially 4 new members at the last Club meeting which could take membership to 23.
We now have 4 junior members, which bucks the trend if what was said at the IPMS AGM is correct.
We have moved to a new location which is free, and a gold mine as far as ideas and information is concerned.
We now live at the Royal British Legion Newbury.
With our planned First Show early next year, that should put the Club firmly on the Map.
Here's keeping our collective fingers crossed.

I regret to imform the IPMS world, that this union didn't last that long. After a very 'special' EGM on April 22nd 2010, a meeting I was not able to attend, the complete and irrevocable breakdown in relations between myself and the outgoing chairman was made complete. Snowdog to you all, instigated a KANGAROO COURT and then very quickly had me 'tried' and 'sentenced' me in my absense (good ole sense of justice not being there to defend myself) and had me banned from the club.
The reasons for this will be made public I will be posting elsewhere on the internet very soon.
It therefore remains for me to say, thank you IPMS for your help in letting Newbury Scale Model Club promote itself on the Club Listing page, without which we would not have been able to crawl back from the brink of closure.
Snowdog can testify to this.
(Even though he seems to have conveniently forgotten that fact.)
Once more thank you IPMS for being a superb organisation. Keep up the good work.
Signing off.

Sorry to hear this news Bloodnock. Doe's this mean the Newbury club is not an IPMS group anymore. We have a mix match club here in Cornwall with some in IPMS and some outside, and we also have a variety of subjects and not just one 'say' aircraft only, this helps to even things out we find. Most clubs have there ups and downs as relationships vary, sounds a pity yours have banned and ousted you, that seems so drastic, what ever made this occur matey. Hope you get sorted.

A difference of opinion on workload, and personalities at the end of the day.
The Chairman wanted me to do more, the Treasurer thought I was doing nothing, and the Chairman wanted to less than he was, which on a month by month basis was not a lot.
I guess trying my hand at wood working and building a travel box for the group build theme during January and February, running the websites, trying to get events organsied for in club entertainment. Doing all the web detail for NEWMOD amongst loads of other bits, just wasn't enough.
As a parting shot, Snowdog has said, the club is now run by modellers for modellers. (That sound familiar to you?)
Well I guess being the worst modeller on the planet, I wasn't what the club needed at the end of the day.
As to Club IPMS members, there is thankfully enough IPMS members within the Club to keep it within the IPMS umbrella.
The club is desperate to keep coming to SWM in November so there should be no worries there.
I got loads of other hobbies that I am always involved with
And a big thanks to club members I now have another, gliding.
Add this to Jive dancing, Marcos Sports cars, a OU degree I am working on, the Model club wouldn't get much extra time out of me now anyway.
There is no need to get it sorted. Snowdog made sure there was no way back. I made it plane I didn't want to go back either.
So thats it really.
Regards
Bloodnock

Hello Sean. Thanks for the comments. I did walk passed a few times but missed you on the day. On the day I had been effectively excluded. With nothing to do and no idea of what was expected. To think I had been the caretaker of the club exhibition kit, magazines, club library, banners and the Marquee I had bought for club use, as far as I can see even leading up to NEWMOD2010 and a rushed meeting to sort out diferences and pesonalities on the Friday before. The fact I had got the cardboard for he cafeteria floor, the catering staff. It appears any further input from me was not considered good form. I even took the rap from the large scale tankers, even though there was no interest from the commitee to sort out the details I had handed over once I realised I was that 'bloke' in the wood pile. Nope, by NEWMOD my membership days were numbered.
To think, just two days before the EXORCISM, S@#**?g had the audacity to ask if I was still 'on' for helping with his garage conversion and shed electrics. If I hadn't been so busy and said yes instead of no, the S@#**?g wouldn't have held his KANGAROO COURT seeing as he still had use for me. Sour grapes? I think its fair to say so. Three years of very hard work saving a club down on its luck.
Ruined because the Chairman would not help and do the job he was elected to do.
I wish the Club well, hoping the club carries on after all the upheavel that has been caused as a result of my Bannishment.
The incumbent Club secretary, foun dit really difficult to find the time to produce the quarterly newsletter. Currently he's away in Canada working, something he does regularly. How he is going to find time to do the secretary's job, the web editing, in house club entertainment and remain enthusiastic we'll have to wait and see. His work on the website is to be commended, however it is following the same pattern I ended up taking. With very little input from the members all his postings might as well have gone around the club via e mail, as his biggest visitors to the club website is bots and search engines. Shame really, as Newbury has a great website.
So much for enthusiasm!
There is the hobby, and thats building models.
There is running a Club, and S@#**?g really didn't want to be
involved.
Shame.

As Bloodnock indicated above, there has been a change in Committee at the Newbury Scale Model Club. As the new Club Secretary I am in contact With Rob Monfea regarding new Club contact details, but the following email addresses will connect to the Club Committee members directly: - The Chairman: chairman@newburyscalemodelclub.org.uk
- The Secretary: secretary@newburyscalemodelclub.org.uk
- The Treasurer: treasurer@newburyscalemodelclub.org.uk
- The Show Organiser: events@newburyscalemodelclub.org.uk
As you may have gathered from Bloodnock's above postings, there has been a very public and destructive disagreement between him and the other former Committee members, resulting in a number of people leaving the Club, including Bloodnock himself. I am hoping that the Club and former members can now put this behind us and we can all move on. As Club Secretary I am committed to ensuring the Club is a fun and energetic place to be and one which accurately reflects the desires of its members. If anyone has any questions regarding the Club, please post here or contact me via email on secretary@newburyscalemodelclub.org.uk Regards, Ian Shumsky NSMC Secretary.

I've read the above posts with interest and I'm pleased that Newbury is going from strength to strength. If I or any of the EC can do anything to assist publicising the club, then please ask. However, I feel that that the posts above, although personal views are verging on a difference of opinion, and before anyone says something they may regret I would remind you all that this is a public forum and may be viewed by all members and visitors to the site. Should you have anything to say which involves IPMS business, may I suggest you take it to the Members Space: ipmsuk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ms which was designed for such discussions. There is a password for the space which is available from me, all I need is your name and membership number. Nick.

Rest assured Mr Shumsky. This is not where the public airing is taking place. This is a forum. Not a blog. IPMS doesn't need anymore detail other what is here.
