The kit has arrived, 1/48 Tamiya complete with Kettenkrad which will be fun. Intend mounting the two models on a simple wooden base - maybe modelled to replicate a strip of autobahn.
I have also collected together the resin slats, inserts and flaps, a replacement cockpit and most importantly the camera bay inserts.
I have made a start with a significant amount of surgery on the wings to accommodate the slats and flaps and that, so far is as far as I have got. Once I sort my camera out ill post a couple of pics so you can see the amount of plastic that has been removed.
Doesn't sound a lot but to get this far has taken me about 7 hours of score, cut, sand, test fit, sand some more etc etc. Cant wait to start on the cockpit!!

Camera sorted so here is a pic of the wing with inserts and flaps - you can see the amount of plastic that had to be removed.

I am stumped at the moment as my camera is completely dead now - the phot of the wing was taken with my phone but is useless for anything close up.
I have almost completed the cockpit tub and am looking to make a start on the camera bay in the next few days.
Gonna borrow a camera from work so hopefully Ill have something to show in the next couple of days.

The build so far The cockpit is in and the canopy is masked. The camera bay primed, although as you can see there are a few gaps that need filling and fit issues that need sanding Paul

The mem allocated me most of the weekend to crack on with this and I am deeply endebted to her. The major assemblies are now on, as you can see, quite a lot of cleaning up was required Notice one of the flaps fell off! The camera covers are held on with blu tac for now and the canopy is tacked on with PVA - will be modelled open The underside is now masked off ready for the primer - note the cotton wool wrapped around the front wheel and masking tape on the camera windows and wheel well. Also added the slats to the leading edge of the wings. Major assemblies complete and primed ready for the first coats of paint. Kettenkrad - complete and primed.

Thanks Rolf
Should be all ready by SMW, applying the colour scheme this weekend, feeling nervous as this is where it could all go horribly wrong. Am attempting to reach a zen like state prior to firing up the airbrush on Saturday.
Am enjoying the build though. The slats and inserts were very tricky but I think if I was to do another it would go together much better.

Messed the paint work up - sprayed on far too thickly. I was hoping it would settle but it didn't. After 4 hours drying it was still wet - not good for acrylics!!
Anyway - stripped it back to primer and will have another go later.
Decided to leave it well alone for the rest of the weekend and contented myself in weathering up the Kattenkrad and helped my son put HMS Campbeltown together. He keeps asking about the airbrush so i may have to let him loose on it soon.

Ok after the first false start I have finally completed the base coat and the camouflage squiggle The green looks very light in the photo (bright flash I guess) but it is significantly darker in real life The resin conversion also came with paint masks for the markings and numbers so I used them and other than a slight creep of white paint was very happy with the results. and The cowlings are on and secured fully as is the canopy and figure although these are not shown Have also attached the PE cowling latches - not fiddly at all!! and the seat belt nonchantantly thrown over the sill. I touched up the leaky number 3 and now looks a lot better and have misted a couple coats of Klear over the model so am set to apply the decals. Should be fully complete by the end of the week. Paul

I am pretty pleased with the finish after a couple of scares. There are still one or two minor errors that remain but I will tell you about them after the show!
The decals are all on now so just needs a final touch up and things are all done.
