I've found something else which tickled the modelling buds this weekend. Whilst attending a local steam fair with a little toy I play with from time to time (see below), and in between providing fire cover and filling the steam engines ... ... this bloke tapped me on the shoulder and asked if it was possible to lay down a few drops of water to settle the dust on the tractor pulling course ... the what? ... then I heard this roar of engines and of course, being a bloke I just had to agree. With a full tank of water and a couple of helpers we soon doused the dust and had time to watch a couple of runs. Here's one of the erm ... tractors ... it's actually an ERF ... ... and then there's these two ... ... so, there's a couple of ideas in the bodge bank, now then, there's a 1/24 Iveco chassis in the workshop somewhere, and an Esci Transit ... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

At Holcot Steam Rally last year they had some smaller beasties, and one driven by a radial engine. What made me smile were the kids - yes under 16's - 'pulling' using garden tractors, with their own sledge and everything! I'll dig out some pics & post 'em. ;D

In the days when I subscribed to satellite TV, Eurosport used to feature tractor pulling events. Apparently, it's hugely popular in Holland, Germany and Scandinavia. Some of the large tractors were awesome. Powertrains included...4 V8s powering the one transmission...2 RR Griffons...several ex-helicopter gas turbines...tank engines...etc. It used to pass an evening or 3.

Alfie, Ere ... there's a Scania in that link called 'Gromit' ... got to be done Alfie mate. ;D I remember the same programs though when I was introduced to Eurosport, sitting there waiting for something to go bang, which inveriably it did ... water steam and oil everywhere! Wot about us lesser mortals having a go with the Flymo? ... Can you imagine it, 4 Flymo engines coupled together with a ruddy great extension lead plugged into a mobile generator and a bloke hanging on the handle for dear life? ... nah, a bit far fetched eh? ... mind you, have a look at this link, lawn mower racing: www.blmra.co.uk/modules/content/?id=3Just as an aside, I have ridden a floor buffer before, that's good sport, similar to riding a skate board! ... mind you, I tend to fall off both equally quickly!
