Hi all, I have recently been doing some kit bashing to make a couple of realistic landrover models. I have used the axles, wheels and springs off the tamiya pink panther and the body off the revell series III 109 to make a "one ton" uprated landrover (basically a modelof my own real vehicle). Its not complete but will be soon. I am looking to continue doing this, but I could do with some way or replicating parts like wheels and tyres, bonnets, dashboards etc. Can anyone tell me where I can get some kind of resin moulding set, so i can make copies of some of the kit parts as they becoming hard to obtain. Furthermore, can anyone suggest how I can scratch-build a model of the truck cab, as its all rounded curves. The two closest vehicles is what I mean by the truck cab. Thanks, Dan.

If you're anywhere near London, or Thatcham, Berkshire, Alec Tiranti supply silicone rubbers, and resins, for moulding. Be wary of the red rubber, which are designed for white metal, and are not very suitable for anything with undercut. There are several white rubbers, which are very flexible, and will easily replicate wheels, and release them from the moulds. I use the T28, T30, rubber, from them, and they have a new polyurethane resin, DR029, which takes a little longer, than most, to solidify, but does mean that it is easier to mould fine items, without having an extraction system. However, do take care with polyurethane; the hardener is cyanide-based, so wear a good face mask. Alec Tiranti's phone no. is 0845 123 2100, fax 0845 123 2101.

Ah, I am actually in Yorkshire...I would only need a small mound, maybe about 3" by 3" to mound the bits. Do you have any idea of the cost of these moulds and resins?

Hi firstly look in Yellow pages for local supplies of resin and RTV rubber . second the only way to make the cab is by laminating alternative colours of plastic card , leaving to set hard and file , carve to profile . If you see too much on one colour you know you have made a mistake best of luck Happy Yule Tide cheers ian

Thanks, will look into those. I need to work out how to get the tamiya spray enamel paint off the body first before I do anything... I want to end up with something like this (I may even do this particulart vehicle) or something like it.

Dan,
Some years ago, Heller produced a 'klic klac' snap together kit of a Landy with the hard cab. It was around 1/35 scale - I know as I was looking at whether it would fit the Italeri kit.
If I remember correctly, it would, but was quite thick plastic.
Hope that helps.
Cheers, John

Ah yes, I know the one you mean. They are now rather rare, and they were good enough to use as parts. I hadn't thought about fitting that, thanks for the tip!
