I bought this kit last November and have now managed to start it. This is the first kit I have built in 1/32 as my preferred scale is 1/48, if only I had known about the Tamiya Storch, anyway, build so far. Started with the cockpit as normal ...and have now moved onto the engine. It is complete and painted although it needs a dark wash to bring out the detail. Eshausts are meant to be burnt iron so I made do with a rust coloured paint - credit crunch strikes again. Apologies for the sslightly blurred images still struggling with the camera. More to follow.... Paul

I have a quandry - wheels or skis?
I am tempted to do an Eastern Front Storch from the Grun Herz with ski's and winter white cam or should I do the Afrika Korps bird in desert cam with wheels.
Any suggestion is welcome.

Canopy is now attached and masked. There is a significant amount of glass and a combination of Tamiya tape and Scotch tape was used. The door is held in place temporarily while the frame is painted RLM 02 I have also given the engine block a wash of black oil which has toned down the bright steel colour nicely also tried a new technique when filling the gap along the fuselage. Put strips of masking tape either side of the gap, applied the putty and before it cured fully, removed the tape and allow the thin strip of putty to harden. Then you lightly run a sanding stick down the length to remove the excess - very quick and very neat, also protects any detail nearby Still haven't decided on wheels or ski's. Paul

Paul,
Looking very good, completely agree about tip with tape/filler, bit like doing silicone sealing in the kitchen..... Fed up with that now.... Thank God kitchens finished..... Maybe after the bedroom Shelley wants done, I can actually put paint to plastic?
Winter scheme for me, with ski's.
Although those Desert scheme's are nice.....

Winter scheme it is - been itching to try out a worn weathered winter cam, lots of green showing through etc.
Take your point about the desert scheme, it is nice, but both the HS 126 and 109 have been done in desert my small homage to Rommel, it is his birthday during the nats afterall.
More phots to follow once the family trip to Devon is completed in two weeks time.

On holiday in devon and trying out a new toy from work, a blackberry. Been raining all week but am likely to get to a AFV museum down the road from Croyde. Looking forward to finishing the Storch off when I get back.

Decided on the winter scheme, so started by applying the standard european scheme of RLM 70/71/65 and the decals as normal I didn't complete the whole scheme, just those areas where the decals show. Once the decals were applied I needed to mask them before spraying the white so I chose Maskol which, for those that dont know, is a liquid rubber solution which paints on and dries to rubbery skin. You can see the purple stain over each decal. I left it to dry for a day or so and then sprayed the white over the greens As they were acrylics they dried fully within an hour so I removed the masks. The idea was to try and simulate the groundcrew painting around the existing markings leaving a green zone around the marking. Not wholly convinced that maskol was the best choice as it is very difficult to control, perhaps torn paper masks would have been better. The white was randomly sprayed so that some of the green shade would show through, hopefully that has come acroos in the photo's. Once everything was dry I gave the area around the decal a rub down with a polishing stick to take care of lose white paint and on the ribs of the wings and rudder to reveal part of the green paint.

All finished. as is always the case there is one thing i am not quite happy about and thats the masking around the numbers. It didn't quite have the desired effec so I masked them again trying to get a little tighter. It seems ok but not 100% happy. i think next time ill use a paper mask. Very happy with the effect of the winter cam, in places the darker paint can be made out and so you dont get a blocked white effect. Wanted to have a slight variation so one of the engine cowls was painted separately as if it is a replacement part and looks pretty effective. Please feel free to comment. Paul
