whilst working on the wrecker Ive been playing with a kit i bought ages ago. It was a half started, half complete kit, bought in a clear plastic bag for £8.00 Ive built it as a "Sprint racer" no sponcers, just the "novice" sticker on the back. As i had no decals i have found in my stash a rear plate. ......now for all them who are observant enough you will see it is a 1992 plate, where as the car is a 1978.. ...well you see, the car was built using a refurbished shell, but the running gear is from a 1992 Ford Sierra Saffire Cosworth hence it been rgistered on the J plate. (as most of the donor parts came from the Cossie) ;D

Nice one Fatty!
I always thought the wheels needed to come out further, the axles being too inboard. What do you think?

Is that the old ESCI Zakspeed GP2 kit ? I've got one somewhere in my stash. I think they did a version with a clear body.

howdy.. I'm new to the Forum.. Nice looking MK2.. these are the mods to sort the wheel issue with the revell kit. unfortunatly the front and rear arches are a mixed bag.. the front arches are more towards the "MONTE Tarmac Specials" SHOWN HERE.. and the rear are a missmatch to the front.. they're also TARMAC ARCHES ..but fron a later variety... which go above the swage line.. 1 or both should be modified to make an accurate model. could look like this with... trimmed front arches and rear's left as they were...

Hi Boreham, You're obviously a Ford Special Vehicles specialist going by your login name, welcome aboard! Thanks for the details, I'm sure there are several here who will be interested. I also recognise the excerpt from Scale Models I took this into account when building my Russel Brookes version but I wasn't aware of the wheel arch vagaries. Nice useful pics too Rich

This used the MRM decals and RHD dash set. The blue, orange and white are Halfords rattle cans. The red and green stripes were "challenging" around the wheels arches and barely fit. From what few pics I could find everything seems ok for the Manx rally it depicts. Etched bonnet pins were added so the bonnet doesn't open and I've not put the ariel on. This also started as the Crystal kit Showing it's age- this and the next were built when the kits were first released by Esci. The Eaton Yale used Tamiya acrylic when they first came out, straight from the bottle with no thinning! I was hooked. The D&W used Cellulose rattle can blue. The decals either side of the bonnet on the D&W became brittle and fell off so I've tried to repaint using Humbrol enamel Enjoy Rich
