Hi Folks. Wondered if you would like to see my latest build. This is the Revell Mercedes 1450 LS. Racing truck driven by Thomas Hegmann to the European championship in 1989. In my opinion this was during the great days of truck racing before the FIA got their grubby mitts on it & limited the top speed, horse power fuel etc.
I built the truck as part of the World Motorsports group Build on Britmodeller. It was a first for me & very enjoyable too. So apologies if you've already seen this before. If you havn't then I hope you like her & thanks for your time.

Dave, that's a fantastic build, looks like we have our first exhibit for the Donington show next year?

Ah, the days of Steve Parish.... I remember seeing a demo race at Silverstone, the ONLY things you can watch all the way round the circuit ;D ;D

While ferreting around I found the picture of the Merc after Thomas’s spectacular crash in `93. Thankfully Thomas escaped the crash with minor injuries, the truck on the other hand was a total loss.
Its enough to make a grown man weep Thankfully no body was seriously injured

Making a proper truck into one of those racing things is enough to make a grown man weep... ;D ;D Mind you the words Mercedes and proper truck aren't necessarily the same.

I see it still has its 5th wheel on, do they have to pull trailers too or is it the rules?

Wolfie, on 'C' class racing trucks the 5th wheel is purely for show, the truck is sponsored to the hilt and just used for racing. However, there was a time when blokes used to park their rigs, detatch the trailer and race the artic unit, then after the race was over, they coupled up and continued on their way ... well, so long as there no little accidents ...
