My previous employment was as a Firefighter, and I've always been interested in firetrucks and firefighting within this hobby. There are at the moment, several kits available devoted to firefighting and I wondered if anyone has the same interest, and also would you be interested in a build devoted to firefighting vehicles?

Here's another build idea for truck modellers with a liking for motorsport. There's a new model show at Donington for August 2009, 'Automodelisimo' is aimed at the car modeller, but there's also space for truck racing enthusiasts. How about building one of the Revell racing trucks, throwing in a spot of detailing or maybe building a racing truck from scratch?

Hi to all-long time reader of the forum but have finally took the plunge to become a member! What made me sign up was reading about the fire engine... I love them and recently bought the man tga xl kit with the idea of making a flatbed from it. Once i stretched the chassis though I started hankering after a fire engine! So now i'm mulling over undoing my work or (gulp) scratchbuilding an entire new lorry (Dennis). New territory for me that, though thankfully dennis cabs arent exactly curved!

Jason, welcome to the forum, we need as many truck modellers as we can get. You could keep the TGA chassis as it is and build a support truck, a curtainsider would be best, and then stick a Moffat Mountie on the back. Any research material you need for fire trucks, just let me know. If you're coming to SMW this year, drop by and have a chat with Chris on the Truck SIG stand, he'll be pleased another deisel jockey has come on board. Incidentally, here's kitbash of mine in progress at the moment: ipmsuk.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=wtc&action=display&thread=394 from the Weathered Challenge elsewhere on the truck portion of the forum.

As i'm from n. ireland i never get to any of the shows i see or hear of on the internet, not too worried because with forums like this i can get plenty of help, info, pics, ideas etc. Is that Chris as in Lonewolf? If it is then i'm familiar with him from TMW forum. Thanks for the offer of the info Nick-i may need to take you up on that. I can get plenty of pics off the internet-and i have-but interior shots and dimensions are less forthcoming although i've managed some cab shots. Your Bussing is coming on well cant wait to see it when its weathered! May be a good excuse to go down to a fire station and see the real thing in the flesh

Ayup Ben,
Yes, that's Chris as in Lonewolf. You can build in any scale you wish, it's totally up to you. Many thanks for the comments on the Bussing, I'm building it as I go along, but unfortunately it's time at the moment.

Might build a recovery truck with smashed up racing car on the back but I dont know if I will go. How long does it take to get from Essex (Canvey Island) to Donnington, and will there be other truck modelers there?

I've been toying with the idea of a fire engine too - A DAF LF55 like Lancashire Fire Service use. Having a few problems locating a chassis cab at the right price though!

Sorry Brian, there isn't a kit item in any scale that I'm aware of. However, if you feel skilled enough to build the chassis and body, you may find there's a cab available somewhere on a child's toy.

Haha - a breakthrough! I have been offered a Liontoys 1/50 diecast LF55 box van through another forum. Will be interesting to see if its possible to modify it to a crew cab. Hopefully the guys at the converters (TVAC) will let me have access to some in build so I can get some photos. The body will also have to be scratchbuilt so it may take a while. Still, will make the model good value for money if it takes me 6 months to build!
