This time last year, I was aware that my work-time was to increase and that I'd have less time to commit to creating a SIG worthy of the name and the ideal and to have something that was infinitely more than just a preparation for placing a display at Telford.
'Unfortunately', I then accepted the nomination to stand for Leader and was voted back in. Whilst I appreciated your faith, time has also proved to me that my initial decision was the right one. I have not been able to develop the SIG any further.
A couple of months ago, I emailed the SIG membership, announcing my intent to stand down as SIG Leader at this years SMW. If no-one volunteered to take my place, then I would announce at the IPMS-UK meeting, held on the Sunday of the Show, that I was standing down and that the SIG was to be folded.
However, some members did voice support and both Alan Bean, "Beany" and Greg Wilson "gregers" put themselves forward. The SIG has to have a named SIG Leader, so over the Show weekend, one of these fine idiots will have to assume the role and I can then name and shame 'em.
As Greg is awaiting is IPMS-UK Membership, he is not eligible, so it is with deep joy and glee that I can confirm Alan Bean as SIG Leader.
I'll pass on the apropriate contact details to both Rob and Nick, to ensure that he gets the emails and letters, as opposed to me.
One lesson I've learned is that it cannot be a one-man band and that, for a SIG to succeed, develop and thrive, it needs the active input of its members. Whoever takes on the role of SIG Leader must have membership support, or the SIG will fold.
And that'd be a pity.
I still believe that there's a need for a CBK SIG and that much can be done to promote this particular aspect of our hobby. It's been fun to begin with, as SIG Leader and frustrating as time as worn on. I'm looking forward to relaxing a tad more and to struggle to more effectively mange my work load.
Thank you for your support and my public good wishes and support to Beany.
