Ian, thanks for all of your help on the KV2, I just wish I could respond with help for you on this image. Sadly, I have not yet seen any picture of the rear of a turret showing any sort of marking. My kit, Trumpeter 00311 KV 'Big Turret', has turret markings but they are only for the sides and not for the rear. The picture you show has a marking that doesn't really seem to correspond with any obvious cyrillic letter and also appears to be just one symbol, not a word. And is it that magical leather punch moment again, Ian, with those rivets on the left hand edge of the turret? I too will keep looking, John

Sanguin speak with forked tongue! Ian, I think I have your KV2, try this link- mechcorps.rkka.ru/files/kv2/images/kv-2_113.jpg The symbol is a '4' in a diamond; the same vehicle appears with side views of the turret just below and there is another more distant rear view as well. So it ain't a cyrillic letter-at least I got that bit right! Look out for the KV2 with the CND peace symbol painted or chalked on the right hand turret side-this is the same tank. In one picture it is the biggest, and least easily stolen, road sign I've ever seen. John

Most signs at that time of Diamond shapes on Russian vehicles were Guards Regiments. They were usually broken down with a line across the middle of the Diamond and numbered/ lettered with the company/ Regiment. The large 4 in the middle is a mystery maybe to hide the true Identity. The Germans often used vehicles knocked out to point the way for there units.
