I want to build a Valentine Mk III as being used by the Soviets under the Lend-Lease programme. I know somw ere up-gunned with the 76mm gun as used on the KV and the T-34. My question is was is only the latter marks of Valentine which were up-gunned or were the early versions up-gunned too? Please help

Daz, Ian Sadler is your man for Russian stuff. I've sent him an email on your behalf, hopefully he'll have an answer for you.

hi , I am most certain the valentine never was up gunned with russian 76 mm guns , as far as I am aware it only ever recieved the british 6pdr gun , reason is the turret ring was too small . note the canadian's supplied nearly all the valentines to Russia and they were mark V1 to Mark V111 the later fitted with the 6pdr , only the very latest mark X1 was fitted with a british 75mm gun this was produced in very small numbers cheers ian

The pics I've seen seem to be painted olive drab/British Bronze green as close as I can see. I'd love to find some evidence of early Valentines repainted in 4BO - any proof Ian..?

Hi Howard , It was in British works yards they were being loaded onto flat cars . I cannot remember which of the Towns at War series of books it was in . It has to be one of the Birmingham ,or Black Country ie heavy industries , I will if I get time try to sort it out cheers ian
