Santa delivered the Italeri WWII SAS Commando Willys jeep, which I've been trying to get hold of for quite a while.
Now, I'd like to change it a bit (personalise it) but I've not been able to find any pics on the web other than a drawing that the kit seems to be based on.
Did these Jeeps actually exist?
Are there any pics out there on the interweb?
TIA

Sorry guys, i was a bit woolly with the request. Let me clarify it a bit, I'm not looking for the desert jeep but the european version, ergo: As you can see, this is a different beast altogether. Huge fuel tanks in the back, armoured screen with armoured glass. I'm trying to find out whether these jeeps actually existed or were just ideas, all I've discovered so far is one coloured drawing.

Neil,
Yes - they were used quite a bit in NW Europe. The Italeri kit is fairly good/accurate but there may be one thing to look out for. On some issues of this kit, the radiator grille looks like a grid rather than the 'usual' Jeep style (never seen this in reality).
Some (most?) of these European Jeeps had the standard Airborne mods (chopped bumpers, removed handholds, removed external footrests etc) as per the photo Nick provided. Many also had an armoured grille fitted between the radiator grille and the rad itself - 4-5 fixed louvre style plates angled down at about 45 degrees.
Armament also varied, much as it did in the desert.
Another option might be to transfer the specialist bits onto the more recent Tamiya Jeep (although the Italeri Jeep still holds up well in the accuracy/detail stakes).
Cheers, John

That's the boy Nick! Where did you find the photo? In fact it looks like the photo that the model was based upon, even down to the medical bag on the right fender.
John: I'll build the jeep as per kit though the radiator bars are moulded ala SAS desert, ie they're removed completely. That, and some other equipment mods, is what I was thinking of doing.
Now I know these things existed means I can make changes, they would have been tweaked in service anyway
Thanks guys
