Dear All,
As promised, another photo build of an unusual aircraft.
This is the R99A, a military variant of the Embraer 145SA Biz jet/airliner, essentially a Brazilian designed airliner, with the Swedish Erieye Radar and command/control system added to it, giving a most unusual and distinctive appearance. Basically an AEW aircraft....Therefore RECCE......
There is another version of the same aircraft, that is essentially an ELINT aircraft, with different 'bumps' that again gives a most distinctive looking aircraft.
This is the R99B.
Both aircraft are in service with the Brazilian Air Force, and the Mexican Air Force, albeit in small numbers. However, of recent the Greek Air Force has taken delivery of the AEW variant.
As another option, rather than the expensive 'Western' AEW aircraft on offer, such as the 737 'Wedgetail', they may yet find new markets with countries who want an AEW aircraft without the price tag of 'mainstream' Western designs...
Even the Chinese seem to have adopted the 'Erieye' system(?) adapting a version of the An 12 'Cub'.
The kit is an all resin kit, made by RVHP in the Czech Republic. One of many RECCE aircraft models they produce, well worth having a look, I must admit. It is also the single most expensive model I have ever bought. By a long way........... £129.!
What do you get for that..?
Well when the kit arrived and I opened it up. I have never seen such a beautifully packaged model.
The cover.
The box when opened contains all the resin parts, in individual plastic bags, sellotaped to the box to protect them. I have never seen anything like it before, and it is a marvellous idea...
All the parts seem to be very crisply moulded, with light detailing and not too many panel lines. Initial impression being very good, very good..... Cannot find any 'bubbles' at all.
Now bearing in mind the cost of this kit, and the fact that I have two Canberra PR9's, two Mirage F1CR's, a Venom R1, RF84 and a Nimrod to finish. Then it may be some time before I start to post further progress on this model......
But after looking at it in the box, I cannot wait... If this is typical of RVHP models, I will be ordering more... But the cost is something else....
