My Dad once mentioned that they'd tried a Typhoon as a PR aircraft early on, and rejected it due to excess engine vibration and because it weaved at low altitudes. I'm not sure if that was with cameras fitted or not though. He was always 100% pro-Spitfire biased anyway, so he would say that of course. Interesting that they did eventually make quite a number of them. One thing most of the posters on Britmodeller seem to have missed is is that one reason for putting the cameras in the Typhoons wing is because they could! Previous PR platforms had wings that just weren't thick enough to take the cameras, viz the bulges for the wing mounted cameras in the Spitfire PR IVs. I'll bet they ever tried it with a Tempest......
