Derrick B
44years old and an ex fairy tboot.
Did my 22 on Tornado kit Fox hunter and Sky shadow now I have to work for a living !! . When I was a lad we lived close to the old Auster works at Rearsby Dad used to take us to watch the gliding club on a Saturday till the place became a leyland components factory. boring Been building stuff since about 8 yrs old but only really got going when I got a paper round! built absolutely any thing ships planes tanks figures the odd Aurora kit lots of FROG and Airfix and any old Monogram kits that came into our paper shop! My First real build on my own was the B17 with the fantastic Roy Cross box artmade me ask for it.and Iwould still Buy it on the strength of his art work Learned what a fuselage and a nacelle was. Written instructions Eh? talk about learning to read!! joined the ATC at 13 and the Air Force @ 19 forgot modelling (my original stuff is up in my dads loft built and hopefully still safe) drank and made merriment for a few years then decided I liked the look of the Heller SAS DC6 and TWA Connie they built up really well and looked fantastic with a couple of old posters from the 50s in my room then the bug started to bite again
My dad says "it ain't a hobby Its a disease!"
Then I got married. dabbled a bit more read a book called They gave me a Seafire by "Mike" Crossly and got fascinated by anything with a reinforced undercarriage and a tail hook (Hence Cap'n Hook) these blokes who could put a plane down on a pitching deck the size of a tennis court must be made of sterner stuff. I love to read the biographies. My all time fave Kit (so far) Is the Tamyia Swordfish I hope the Trumpeter one is as good. Cant afford that now though Crunch is Biting hard. I do have an old ID vac form to build but am struggling to make an engine for it.
IF i can I build stuff from scratch, resin very nice but stings the pocket
I still build ships and do use a bit of etch railing and the like . my last one completed is HMS Emporer From the Tamiya Bouge Kit. Currently working on Enterprise and two Fletchers 1/700 also an Albacore.which i need a canopy for Barracuda and Fulmar I do have other stuff as well 1/48 B17 s mustangs Im into nose art, four engined heavies, British twins, and kit for dioramas wish list British deck catapult and a Jumbo crane any scale that is affordable
