Does anybody have, or know where I can get, drawings of the Avro Vulcan? I am building a heavy haulage truck in 1/50 scale and want something different for a load. In a moment of madness, whilst watching the Vulcan flypast at the airshow at Blackpool yesterday, I thought a Vulcan fuselage and tail would look superb. Never tried scratchbuilding an aircraft before but fancy a challenge for the winter! Alternatively, don't suppose anybody has a spare vac-form fuselage that is looking for a good home? Brian

Hi Brian,
Arthur Bentley did a good set of Vulcan plans, although I should warn you that a Vulcan fuselage in 1/50 scale works out at about 25 Inches (63 cm)!
Cheers,
Rob M.

Ah well, its going behind the Allelys 8x4 DAF so it needs to be something quite impressive.
If its 2 foot long, I suppose I'll have to convert the King trailer into an extendable as well...

H Right vehicle but mine is accurate (Corgi's attempt was hopeless)! I've started with a Corgi 4x2 tractor and scatchbuilt a new chassis and suspension from plastic card. I've also detailed the interior of the cab and opened up the door (no mean feat on a diecast). When my home internet is working again (pleasures of Talktalk) I will post some WIP pics in the Truck section. BTW, had a look for the Arthur Bentley drawings but they appear to be out of print and a search of t'web hasn't revealled anything yet.

Hi Brian,
The warpaint book on the Avro Vulcan contains drawings of the Vulcan. You get a rather expensive drawing but also a free book.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Brian Aeroguide 29 is about as good as you're going to get for plans and detail photographs of the Vulcan B2. However, as an-ex Vulcan rigger, you should be aware that your project is not straight forward. The Vulcan fuselage was broken into 3 sections: crew compartment, centre and rear. The fin was a separate item too (making the aircraft 26 feet tall when fitted). The centre section went from the nose undercarriage bay forward bulkhead to the rear bomb bay bulkhead and included the 4 engines and all 3 undercarriage units. See here for photos etc www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/vulcan/history.htmlThe Aeroclub Vulcan in 1/48 scale is extremely rare and commands huge secondhand prices. However, Sanger have one in their current range www.sangereng.fsnet.co.uk/V%20Bombers.htmRegards, Alfie

Thanks Alfie, I hadn't realised the Vulcan fuselage was in three sections. That would make a full fuselage a pretty unrealistic load and the cockpit section would not warrant a low-loader of this size to shift it.
Colin, in view of the information from Alfie, I am going to drop the idea of the Vulcan as a load butthank you for your kind offer.
Looked on the Sanger website and they have some very interesting models and they seemed pretty good value for ~£30. Long time since I have built a vacform but I am now considering either a Halibag or a Shackleton.
