Does any kind soul know of an idiot-proof method for painting stripes on propellor hubs. I'm painting the JU 88P-1 above and I'm wary of the red stripe. Many thanks Max Attachments:

I would suggest thin stripes of Tamiya Tape and a steady hand. You may be able to use a strip of decal but I doubt the compound curves would allow you to do it to a satisfactory level. I tried using a circle template once but failed dismally so dont try that.
Best of luck

Dear Paul
Thanks for the post. I started experimenting yesterday with blocks of solid colour then using various denomonitions of coin I have from my travels I cut a circle within a circle. Cut to estimated length, placed on the hub and then copious amounts of solution and tweaking, and the result is superb...at least I'm well chuffed to say the least. When the kit is complete and my camera is back from the menders I'd like to post some photos on this site.
Best regards Max ;D

For non-spiral spinner (and nose) stripes I go back to my old spring-bow compasses, from the days when a draffie didn't have a keyboard. I have a bit of 0.060" plastic card, so carved that I can clamp it in the blades of the inking device (well, it isn't a nib!) Then I adjust the spike to length and height, and scratch idiot marks round the spinner. Paint from root to tip, shaving back to the scratched line rather than overpainting. (The scratch line fills up.) Needs care but I prefer it to struggling with transfers, even if I get the curve right I always end up undulated. Having said that, your particular '88 may not be the best advert for this method! Spring-bow compasses ............ worth searching junk shops for.
