I've actually built a PR Aircraft (as opposed to an AEW beast) for the first time, hope you all like it.
This is my first model in a series that will depict the Air Wing CVG-84 "Wolf Gang" that was embarked aboard the USS Bunker Hill CV-17 in February 1945 when they attacked main land Japan. I have completed this particular model as a F6F-5P, which is essentially a normal fighter with a camera installed, usually as a field mod in the port fuselage just behind the wing root.
The model has taken several months to complete over the summer with several interludes in the process. It is the Eduard 1/48th kit with the PE cockpit accessories and some resin bulged wheels. The weathering and exhaust might seem excessive but have a look at the original's photograph, and it looks as if I may have under played it. Converted from the F6F-3 kit the window behind the cockpit was filled and certain wing panel lines were also filled, luckily the kit included the correct cowling for the F6F-5 so it was fairly easy to convert. Hope you like it.
Alot of work went into pre shading panel lines and post shading the centres of the panels to lighten them up, this was my first attempt at this process especially with a dark colour that meant the Sea Blue Gloss coat had to be very thin. I used Gunzge Sanyo acrylic paints and was very pleased with the results.
