Got this off ebay a few weeks ago. Didn't know this existed until then. Nice looking kit by all accounts and ,as an owner of the real thing, I am quite excited about getting a good result. Bumpers and other chrome parts are plated I think and there is full engine detail. Not sure how old the kit is but I searched on google and could not find Metal 24 or Western models (both names are mentioned on the box)

Western Models are here: www.westernmodels.net/
They made a range of metal kits in 1/43 mainly and were one of the pioneers of kits in that scale. They seemed to be overtaken by continental makers, who developed resin production and p/e parts. Nice to see they're still around. I built a 1/43 Triumph Dolomite racing car for someone. The decals ended up in rather more pieces than the sheet suggested! So did my brain Regards Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for the link. Looks like they only produce aircraft models now. Ah well, will have to keep scouring the pages of good old ebay. Hope the decals for the Spitfire don't end up the same way. I may give them a coat of clear just to be on the safe side. Mind you, there are only 3 Spitfire IV badges and the instrument decals are not up to much anyway.

Looks a nice white metal kit of one of the later versions! Did not know that Western Models ever kitted it in 1/24th scale. I do remember that their kits were of good quality generally. The company was around from the early days of white metal car kits when many UK manufacturers were around and many of the kits were to say the least very poor. Some of the old UK manufacturers still survive, and they appear to be the ones who made good quality kits in the early days. The only plastic kit that I know of that vaguely resembles a Spitfire is the old Pyro Triumph GT6. Body wise it is similar in appearance to one of the earlier marks of Spitfire.

Hi Noel, the old Pyro kit was re-released a little while ago by Model King, I got a few as I had the idea of trying to build the Macau Spitfire from one of them and perhaps a club racer version of a GT6. It will need a fair bit of work as the windows are a bit small for one. The Western Models Spitfire is finished and I have added a pic, I built it as a replica of my Spitfire. It is now totally inaccurate as my Spit has been converted to 6 cylinder engine with 5 speed gearbox! Regards, Steve.

Greta stuff Steve. I've not plucked up enough courage to start the GT6 yet either ;D
