As you may be aware by now, negotiations for the production of an aftermarket military front end kit for the Emhar Bedford O' series are well under way. There seems to be an interest in the Scammell coupling mechanism which could also be produced as an aftermarket item to turn the SWB Bedford into the Bedford OX.
The object of this poll is to ascertain how many modellers would be interested not only in the Scammell coupling system, both the vehicle mounted parts and the trailer mounted mechanism, but also a full kit in 1/24 of the Scammell Scarab?
You may vote for 1 item. I would also be interested in any views modellers may have about the kits mentioned above, please leave your comments on this thread.

I may have misread this but I have voted for the coupling kit with trailer mechanism but I would possibly be interested in a full trailer (or at least chassis) to convert or use as is on a Bedford (does that make sense? : Andrew

If you make the coupling kit it has to be the whole outfit ie, parts for the unit and trailer as these were used onmany types of vehicles in those days such as O type S type and TKs as well as the railways Scarabs.

It seems that there is a bit of confusion about what I'm planning. The Bedford military pattern front end is a definite and hopefully I'll have something to show at Huddersfield. Also planned are military pattern wheels, a hip ring for the cab roof, correct seating for the military version, trafficators and headlamp covers.
The vehicle mounted Scammell coupling and the trailer coupling mechanism are planned as a complete kit, but it would also be sensible to consider supplying a trailer chassis of the correct pattern.
There are also other projects worth considering for the Emhar kit including various military pattern bodies, but that's in the future, I want to complete the first project and judge the demand.

Thanks for the clear up Nick! No problem, interestingly, I've found another coupling system used for the Queen Mary Trailer, strange contraption, never seen it before: ipmsuk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=afvs&action=display&thread=6501&page=1To be honest, I've waited for so long for the Emhar kit, it's a superb platform for loads of conversions. The military front is just a start, I'm just lucky I have a good friend who is a pattern maker and also shares my interest in older vehicles.

Gentlemen, that coupling on the Queen Mary trailer is, I believe, the Tasker system. The trailer part should have a vertical pin that is centred on the plate and this engages in a hole in the tractor section. As far as I can see this was was only used on Queen Mary trailers, all of which were designed and, I suspect, made, by Tasker. In effect this made it a semi-trailer as neither tractor nor trailer could be used separately with other units. I suspect that later, post war, Queen Mary trailers went to a more conventional Scammell or fifth wheel linkage but I haven't been able to track down any photographs to confirm this. It is interesting that virtually all contemporary images of Queen Mary trailers shows them connected to a tractor unit; there are very few with them disconnected other than those taken in museums. That is why I have compared them to semi-trailers. The quest for knowledge continues, the search goes on. John

The military front end project has failed for the time being. After a long conversation at SMW last year I had persuaded a Czech trader to seriously consider the project in 1/24 scale. Unfortunately he's informed me that the project is one too far for him at the moment. However, it's still on the back burner. The coupling for the vehicle and the mechanism for the trailer is also still under consideration but life has a habit if getting in the way at the moment.
