I've got a bit of a diorama bug in me, and am now doing my 7th Diorama. I guess I make dioramas because I don't have a Model railway to fiddle around with at the moment, so instead I just enjoy making Vignettes. I started this little number a couple of months ago - It's taken quite a while as I've only been working on it for a few hours at a time. It ain't finished yet, but I've found the film Saving Private Ryan very useful for reference as it covers the same beach.
The Bunker was scratchbuilt using plasticard, and polyfilla was applied in thin layers over the top and mixes and washes of concretey greys were applied over the top of the Polyfilla. The landscape was done using chicken wire and strips of newspaper dipped in a 50/50 mix of PVA and Water.
I've done quite a bit on the diorama since these pictures - I have to borrow a camera to take pictures as My camera is bust at the moment and I need a new one!
I'm working on a few AFV's and Soft skins. So far I've done the Airfix Kubelwagen (technically it's 1/76, but I'll just carefully reposition it!), I'm working on the Italeri Sd.Kfz.11 (ESCI re-box) and I've got the Italeri Opel Blitz in the Stash. I also plan to get the Academy ground Vehicle set (for the Ketterkrand and Kubel)the Italeri German guns set as I'm including a small artillery instalment on the top of the cliff and the Pegasus Omaha beach Rangers.
Originally, the plan was to include two Pegasus LCVP's, but due to realism issues (using a modellers licence would have meant the beach would have been about 15cm long!) I decided to scratchbuild two 1/4 length ones from plasticard.
