I'm building an Airfix C47 used to transport 101st Airborne from Greenham Common in the early hours of 6th June 1944. Can anyone help with aircraft colours used at the time?

IIRC standard olive drab upper surfaces and neutral grey with invasion stripes? Rich

Yes, well ..... "standard Olive Drab" is iffy for Daks of the time, apparently the camouflage was "improved" on some examples by having some components like fins and aft cowlings delivered by the sub-contractors in Medium Green. This shows up dark against OD41 (greyish brown to brownish grey, depending on age) and less so against "new,greenish" OD ref. ANA 613. Check your source photos, and remember the stripes were applied in a mad rush, using a yard brush! Cheers --- Bri.

Refering to Medium Green components, this is unlikely as that would not have passed the inspectors at the plant. The darker colour comes about simply because of the acceptable variations of Olive Drab. What is common is sub-contracted replacement rudders in O/D dope with Medium Green disruptive patches whilst the rest of the aircraft is plain O/D. In 1942 Medium Green was specified as disruptive patches along the leading and trailing edges of maimplanes and tailplanes, a copy of the works drawing is in IPMS magazine for July 1965: T.O.N7 02-40NC-3 (revised 45 SEPTEMBER 1945) page 102 fig.70 Douglas drawing 5115230. However at some point many C-47s did not have these disruptive patches applied at works and not later when repaired.
