As part of the Berlin Brigade diorama, I'm building a Landrover 109 which will have a canvas cover in place ... What is the correct colour / shade?

any landys I have seen have a had various shades of canvas from very dark green to very light khaki, some times the shade matches the vehicle colour exactly , to 2 totally different colours altogether the rules is there is no right colour

looks bang on to me....we have been here b4 I believe(on this forum?) re colours on armour and soft skins, anything goes as the colour schemes are not writ in stone and due to local conditions may vary.......I recall seeing the prog 'second world war in colour' there was a shot of some shermans which had a gloss appearance..and there we were for years matting everything !!!!!!!

The 3 Rovers parked outside my office all have hardtops fitted. However, I concur with Karlos on the colour variation on the canvas version. The canvas is typically the same colour as our tents, but depends on how much outdoor bleaching they've had.

Thanks for the input fellas, much appreciated. Can't wait for the usual bright spark at a show to say those immortal words 'they were never that colour' ... because there's usually one!

I agree with Alfie - there are no hard and fast rules regarding the colours of Rover Canvas. Unless it is brand spanking and straight from the QM's Dept the canvas will be sun bleached, torn, sewn up, torn again, painted, repainted and probably painted again with each annual inspection.
The only consistency is that generally the end canvas will be the same as the main canvas and that is not that consistent. Nice Rover by the way, did you know that the 'clear' panel on the end canvas is pretty opaque and very difficult to see through. Didn't want you wasting time trying to achieve near invisibility on the panel. Best of luck

........or taken from one (old )landy and refitted to another(new) landy , or a camo painted one to a plain one and vice versa

Now there's a strange coincidence. Parked outside the Auxiliary Regiment building is a 4 tonner with a canvas cover. From my office window as I sip my gently cooling cup of tea, I can see that the canvas is indeed in 4 variations (and that's only the side that I can see!): a new panel the same colour as Nick's model, the roof is a tad darker, which blends into another side panel that's nearly the same colour but has black camo edges and on the front is a very faded panel that's almost grey.
Please feel free to quote me on that. I would have taken a photo but I don't have a camera with me.

I won't be using the kit glass for the rear of the canvas, I'm opting for a bit of flexible sweet wrapper which I hope I can sandwich between a bit of plastic strip.

South
Interested to see pics of your completed Rover - or at least to know how the canvas colour dilemma turned out.
