Dear Ian, I have an iMac running OS X 10 4 11 (about three years old) and there are very few Word applications that I cannot open. I must say that the few files that you have sent me have always opened on my system. AppleMac use a word processing program called Pages and usually Pages files are not read by older Microsoft programs so it is generally we Mac users who can't write to the PC users....unless we convert our Pages files to a Word format, which we can do very simply. However if his Mac system can't automatically open Word files then send him this link: www.apple.com/pro/tips/word_files.htmlIt tells him how to use Text Edit to open Word files and read them on a Mac! Good luck, John

Ian, You could convert the document to a PDF - file. Even Mac users should be able to read that format. Seb

In this case, use Open Office. Reads/writes MS stuff and works on iReligousZealoutOS too cos it's written in Java.

Even Mac users should be able to read that format. Actually, it's usually the other way around - I can open most things on my Macs. However, depending upon what version of the Mac OS your friend has, he should be able to read Word files in Preview. No need to open the file - just select it and press the space bar. I can read 90% of files this way...
